Model specifics

Hey guys, Im new to the RX-7 game so before I get bombarded...yes I searched this site and others for this info, but it seems as if everyone neglected to put it in the FAQ sections. Or maybe I just didnt look hard enough...
This is easier anyway, even if it does make you want to pull your hair out. I know of 3 models, GTU, GXL and the Turbo2...and there's a convertible in there somewhere (but we will pretend it doesnt exist since it weighs in at just over 3000lbs). Im looking for an FC (of course), must be manual trans, preferably 5-lug...preferably w/out power locks/windows all the extra features that do nothing but weigh the car down and cause more problems.
All I really need to know is...what model should I look at? The little things like alloy wheels dont really matter, there's always e-bay or aftermarket wheels.
TIA

Yo! From what I gathered the best NA was the GTUs. Other than that the turboII was basically the same but with turbo's on it. In other words the GTUs had the better rear end(lsd?), transmission, & suspension, Different gear ratio in the Diff. but might have had power wwindows & stuff depending. But then again thats off the top O' the head so.. go figure. The spec sheet for the GTUs is different than the regular one on the FAQ unless I'm mistaken of course. I don't actually know anything - just what I thought I have seen in this forum.

NO NO NO NO... that is incorrect. Do not spread that bad info... in fact just pretend you never posted it.

A 89-90 GTUs used the same tranny, same rear end (except for gearing and LSD), same suspension, as all the other S5 non turbos and it didn't have power windows.

It was a strippy base car with GXL brakes, Turbo wheels, Turbo seats, a LSD and a higher rear end gear ratio. NOTHING MORE... No Turbo Tranny, No 8" turbo rear end, No heavy duty suspension.

On the Standard features and options sticky thread at the top of these threads has all the options and standard features of all the US models. Including the GTUs.

And as far as the best non turbo coupe, the 86-87 sport would probably be a better choice, since it was the fastest non turbo FC, and basicly the grand-dad to the GTUs.
