Modded my tails

I had some extra time the other day and decided to open up my tails. They are not the most fun to take apart. I had a heat gun and went at them with it. It was a good learning experience and i now know how I will do it next time but unfortunately i found out where the cover is the weakest and cracked it there.
All in all it took about an hour take apart one headlight and then remove the reflector and slap it back together. However the RX7 Sign took a bit longer
I decided that doing the LED`s would be more work than cared to do unless i can find a direct fit type that I can just cut out the old housing area and glue/screw in the new ones. Any how while I was at it I just pulled out the reflectors and then decided to see what an RX7 sign would look like inside with a back light.
here is what I came out with.
Before

After

geeeeeewwwwwww!!!! not a big fan of that.
I like the "ghosted" circles closest to the license plate, but the lights at the bottom completely dominate it too much.

haha if you read my post in the far east section you will see that these are only a test job, it also tells what happened to my exhaust tip but in short i backed into a wooden post, it only got the muffler tip and I could not make it back into a clean circle so until I get some decent size piping for the tips i am stuck with a triangle

The bottom portions are not lights they are just reflectors that show up like lights with a flash on a camera. I could look into eliminating them or making them much smaller.

they look good. i also did this a few months ago but i now have a leak somewhere and have to take them back apart and reseal them. do you plan on tinting them or repainting? you can remove the reflector the easy way if you repaint them and spray a dark black over it.

EDIT. also why didn't you do the turn signals?

I may continue testing with these tails so i will give the whole painting of the reflectors ago when i have time. I removed the turn signal reflector and put it all back together but did not like the way it looked all that much. I have seen some that look good but they have a shielding ring on them but the stock tails do not have that shielding ring and I didnt have time or the materials to make one for it. If I do fallow through and do the full LED tail thing then i will be sure to make shielding rings for all 3 lights.

The RX-7 portion was just cut into the black license plate shield. So the light that lights up the license plate is now lighting both the plate and back lighting my RX7 cut out.

I had heard/read about the oven idea also however, ovens dont exist in 90% of Japanese households. In fact in the 2.5 years I have been here I dont think I have seen a single one. It is just not a part of Japanese Cuisine.
So yeah that is why I had to use a heat gun.
