mod questions you guys, looking for advice please (s5 TII)

i have an 87 gxl with s5 turbo motor.

engine: (3,500mi on new motor) street port, all emissions gone with mazdatrix block off plates, 550 primary injectors, 850 secondarys, malory fuel pressure reg with walbaro fuel pump, 3 1/2" downpip to 3" staightpipe and catback, front mount intercooler, double alternator pully,

electrical: microtech lt8-s, battery relocated in back cargo box, greddy turbo timer,

driveline: short shifter, clutch and flywheel on the way, torsen lsd,

suspension: tokico allumnis 5-way, ground control coilovers, prothane bushings, racing beat sway bar kit,

all power steering and A/C are taken out. all noise deadtner scrapped off, everything i could do to save weight without making it ugly has been done.

i want to upgrade the turbo and turbo maifold but im not sure what to get, i dont have an arm and a leg to spend because i just put this together about a month ago lol.

id like to know what a decent turbo, turbo manifold, and wastegate would be just till i get enough for really expensive peices (probably over winter) im running 5.5psi and sometimes i can hit 6psi on the stock unit. im only looking for about 15psi. so if anyone had information that would help and stop me from buying **** items i would appreciate it. sorry for the long thread.

roger

what HP are you looking for?

A BNR stage 1 at 15 psi will not yield the same HP as a GT35 at 15 psi or a T70 at 15 psi.

ive had an NA for a while and i just did the turbo swap so im not sure what hp will do what to the car. for instance im not sure what i would need to be able to hit a 12.5 quarter which is pretty much my first goal. so if i were to say power. how about 350hp. what would i need to hit that first?

You already have the fuel and the standalone so you're one step ahead of a bunch of ppl. You have the FMIC ready also.

I like BNR turbos.
Prices may have changed since i got mine so you better contact him either on this forum or through the website www.bnrturbos.com:
The stage 1 is good for ~300hp at 14 psi =$560 shipped
the stage 2 is good for ~350 at 15 psi = $650 shipped
I don't know about the stage 3 or 4's though.

I think 350hp should put you close to 12.5 seconds assuming you can drive decently.

They have ported wastegates so you don't have to buy a separate wastegate (less money to spend). and it's bolt-on so you don't have to get a new manifold or exhaust/install flanges to fit.

I haven't installed mine yet so I can't tell you about the actual HP numbers.

honestly, the safest thing for you to do right now is get used to your newly turbo'ed FC and wait a while before you do a turbo upgrade. That way you're not jumping straight into a 350hp car without first being able to handle the 250hp you JUST got. Keep researching the BNR turbos and make a move when you think it's PRUDENT.

i had a third gen rx7 with close to 400hp if banzai racing numbers were correct. therefore i dont think id have too much of a hard time with 300 to 350hp in the second gen. its just lighter. ive also had it for a while now so im used to beating the hell out of it and knowing somewhat what it will do lol. i figured that since i can use 5 different data logs on the lt8 i would get a new turbo and turbo manifold and set the data logs for 10psi, 12psi, 14psi, 16psi, than leave one open. i will deffinetly look into the turbos. though. i thought about getting a t'70 off ebay for $500 with a ss manifold and waste gate, just not sure how good ebay items are when it comes to something like that. thanks for the help though. anymore advice would be greatly appreciated.

so i just looked at the bnr turbos on the site you gave me and im honestly considering getting the stage three or four, instead of spending the same amount of money on a turbo wastegate and manifold. i could get the manifold later down the road. what stage is yours, id like to see it on the your car also. so let me know when you put it on lol

mine is a stage 2. I should be doing the efan and fuel pump on Saturday. Depending on how fast I work I can have pics of the turbo installed by next monday.
