Mobil Highmileage ok?

i just bought a box of Mobil Highmileage 10W-30 for my 91 N/A that has 92K on it. its this a good oil to use or is there something better? it is also NON- synthetic. ive heard that synthetics can leave ash and residue in the chambers.

Isnt it the other way around? I had the impression that full synthetics left no ash content in the housing.

I use mobile one 15w-50.

i use 10w-30 in the winter and 20w-50 in the summer (i think!) castrol non sythn. From what I've heard synthetic is okie if its Royal Purple because it burns so cleanly, but not the others.

synthetics are ussually designed not to burn easily, and since a rotary engine is suposed to burn a little bit of oil, thats where the argument comes in.

there's a post somewhere that describes why mobil high mileage is very bad for your engine. I'll see if i can find it... Mobil1 is fine though, I believe.

As for synthetic or nonsynthetic oil, synthetic are not worth it since you can't take advantage of their main benefit-extended oil change intervals. A decent Group III base oil-not a try synthetic but a hydrocracked oil like ones found in Castrol Syntec or Mobil 7500 or Rotella T should be sufficient and not set you back too much money. True synethics such as Royal Purple, Mobil1 etc..which are PAO and Ester based (group IV and group V basestocks respectively) are not cost effective unless you are racing.
There it is.

High Mileage oils of any brand contain additives that help stop oil leaks by swelling oil seals. I personally wouldn't use this type of oil unless I had an engine (rotary or piston) that leaking or consuming excessive amounts of oil. Once you swell a seal with with a seal swell additive you can't really go back to a "regular" oil because the seal will shrink back to less than its original size.

And 20W-50 in the summertime. Or since I live in Tampa, pretty much year round.
