mitsu lancer evo 8 intercooler... too big for stock turbo???

hola....... i just aquired an intercooler from a mitsu evolution 8 and am curious if its maybe too big for a mostly stock t2..... boosting @ 8-10 lbs. right now, but want to go to 12-14 lbs. i already got the intercooler itself installed, (no piping yet) (having it professionally done)... looks really good..... but just curious about how big it is. ill take a few pics tomarrow... thanx for your time

Too big of an intercooler? I don't think I would ever say that. If it is small enough to mount in your car it is not too big.

Are you talking about a stock EVO intercooler?

it would be fine. the intercooler would have to be pretty dang big to actually make a noticeable difference in boost response time.

the only thing thats gonna make a difference is maybe a little more turbo lag because your gonna be running more intercooler piping compared the the stock one, but your intake temps are gonna drop alot with a front mount. so put that puppy on or give to me

Seems small compared to other FMIC for FC's but It should work. Even if it is smaller it stays away from the engine so heat soak is not a problem and that's what really kills the FC's TMIC.

Might have to do some reworking for the end tanks to get some tubing in there.

Increasing turbo lag is a myth. As long as the core is efficiant, and proper piping is ran, there will be no noticeable increase in lag.

You would need flow/efficiancy charts to really know how well it's going to work. Keep in mind mitsu. designed it to work well on the 280hp EVO..so logic says it will be fine...

thats a good point... he was pushing over 400+ horsepower out of this intercooler, so, i think its a good intercooler to start with (now he is pushing 512 hp to the wheels, so he got a bigger intercooler)
