My only comment is I like where your IC piping goes. I've never seen that before on an FC. looks like lots of work to get the rad frame back to strengh though.

Nice work Mike and blowing anything away on the street is always fun.... especially in such sleeper cars as we've built. The look on the losers face is WTF just happened?

BTW- Mike's new 4.1 is built up with the correct parts and is totally interchangeable with the 3.8 standard Buick GN engine. Mike just needed custom pistons and everything else is the same.... just some more cubes. The new engine should make close to 600hp I'm guessing.

Won't take much effort with good gas to get 550hp/600ft/lbs tq

Add this to a 2700lb RX-7 and easy mid/low 10 second 1/4 mile times will result.

I have a turbo 2 diff in mine and with 10psi boost launching under boost off of the E-brake and slicks..... I have yet to break any parts out back. 50+ hard launches on it. Aside from 2 stock diff mounts that tore apart. The new Mazda Comp unit is holding up well.

400hp 13BT will not last long and everyone should agree with that. Just look at the weekly threads here of people popping near stock engines with minor bolt ons.

Now Mike and I are on the quest for who will run 10's first! I'm guessing Mike will.... since I'm only running mid 11's on a stock GN turbo and have no $$$ to upgrade yet.

Mike also uses the stock RX-7 radiator in his conversion! He lives in FL also and even with the front mount intercooler it runs cool!

Oh and to all you haters that was an unloved 4 lug SE with no motor that was headed to the crusher. Yah you may claim it's no rotary but at least the car is on the streeets kicking ***.

nice job,i agree you cant make that kind of power and torque reliably with a 13bt and even if you could even get close it could blow up at any time.my t2 puts a smile on my face every time i drive it but i know who not to race.torque is a big thing.

Yes, that may have been important to mention. The car was originally a 4 lug SE car. Small brakes, 14" wheels, the works. The person I bought the car from took the rotary out to use it in a Carolla or something. I bought the car and it looked like this:

I bought all the suspension stuff off of an '88 GXL and installed it on the car. 5 lug, LSD, big brakes, 4 piston calipers ect. Then I bought some T2 wheels off ebay and now it looks like it does now:

I plan on gong to SpeedWorld this Wed, weather permitting of course. The car is a handful on the street, and I can't wait to get it to the track for some official base line runs. All this excitement over this stock engine that is in the car now. Can't wait to drop in the 4.1 !

-How long will a 400HP rotary last until the apex seals blow? I am talking about years/1000's of miles.
-How much porting are we talking about and how is it going to idle when done?
-What if I want to start my car up in the morning and then shut it right off without a full warm up?
-How many turbo's and how much NO2 will this require to make 400HP?

Please educate me!
Well to be honest I own a NA (thats all I could\can afford), so that means I don't have any hands on experience. However keep in mind that where I grew up, we have high 12 seconds NA, and low 10 seconds. On any case, what you need to reach\pass the 400hp, is:

T04 60-1
Street ported engine
Halltech

Everything else will be about the same as any other turbo car. Now the key on how long it will last, relies on how hard you abuse the car and how it is *TUNED*

Hope this help!

Elio

BTW - For more info, visit the rotary performance and Halltech section on this forum.

MisRed, make a shroud to cover the area where the IC sits. Without it, air can flow over the radiator instead of through it. Aluminium, plastic or CF sheet, whichever you prefer.
