MisRed Intercooler Piping Complete
I am happy to report the long awaited intercooler piping and SS exhaust are all complete on my car. Had to travel down to Ft. Lauderdale (4 hour drive for me) to visit one of the only guys in the state that does Mandrell bent piping.
2.5" intercooler piping and 3" downpipe, all stainless. I also used (2) 2.5" SS UltraFlows out back and the car is mega quiet... just like I wanted it
You should see the looks on peoples faces when they try and race me from a light. They pull up and hear an unsuspecting RX-7 and proceed to F with me. They rev their engines and stare at me... then when the light turns green and I instantly put 15 car lengths on them, they give up and let out! So far the victims have been a lot of rice boys, Audi S4, and the best one 2 nights ago, an LS1 CumAreo. I had no idea this car was going to be a race magnet!Car is currently tuned in around 18psi and moves out quiet well. Probably a low 12 second car the way it sits right now. The rear appears to be posi (it will leave 300ft of stripes). I have been trying to get to the track recently, but's it's been raining here for weeks.
The rear also sounds very loud. Especially when I let off the gas. I am going to replace all wheel bearings here shortly, in efforts to cut down on all the road racket at about 70mph. Sounds like I am driving a tank at highway speeds, and it's not the engine making the noise. I need some 3.90's to hold me over and some new wheel bearings.

Ya, your right... now that I think about it, I think I will take out this 400HP V6 motor and put the anemic short fused rotarty back in the car.. <-(Insert sarcasm here)
Actaully, I bought the car with the rotarty motor already removed. I didn't have to look at it, work on it and most importnatly I didn't have to worry about getting rid of it... god knows the thrash guys will not take engines.

My first and easiest answer is "because I want to make 400HP on pump gas and not replace my engine every 10k miles." Then I can go on to say how I like a motor that gets 26mpg and idles at 750rpm. Until you experience 400hp & 500ft lbs of stump pulling torque from a Buick V6, you will just not understand... most V8's don't even compare...

My first and easiest answer is "because I want to make 400HP on pump gas and not replace my engine every 10k miles." Then I can go on to say how I like a motor that gets 26mpg and idles at 750rpm. Until you experience 400hp & 500ft lbs of stump pulling torque from a Buick V6, you will just not understand... most V8's don't even compare...

Mmmmm....400 horsepower. Does the car understeer a lot now? That seems like a whole lot of engine in front of the wheels. Also, what transmission and rear end are you using? Any firewall mods necessary?

Maybe muscle car, Trans Am or Grand Am owners would.
And while I can appreciate your quest for power and I am sure that (much like GNX7's is) it is much quicker on the drag strip and the street than my car, I still have to laugh.

I agree with icemark, most here won't like the conversion since you took the heart out of the car. And I guess the GN crowd will say something to the effect of....why out the engine in the RX-7? Either way, the conversion has made finding a group of people who will actually approve totally of it hard to do.
BTW the car has a LSD, not a posi traction rear end, although similar, the LSD is more for road racing than drag racing so your going to have to replace that before it shatters during a race.
I love RX-7s, and like the GN, but don't like the hybrids. just my opinion.

No, no firewall mods were neccessary.
Thats awesome. People will always complain when you take out the original engine and put something else in. I'd be jealous too if my car only put out 100rwhp stock. The rotary engines while small and compact just dont have the umpf.
Do you have any frame enhancements? I bet that car is going to be warped after a couple of stall launches.

However, in your comment above, you only got the following things right:

If you know what you are doing you can achieve HP numbers higher than 400hp on pump gas daily drive 13BT, I won't get into details, but it has been done, and the formula is quite easy!

-How long will a 400HP rotary last until the apex seals blow? I am talking about years/1000's of miles.
-How much porting are we talking about and how is it going to idle when done?
-What if I want to start my car up in the morning and then shut it right off without a full warm up?

One turbo is all it takes...no bigger than a T04. You don't need any NO2, or even any N2O.
It can be done with a street port, and it will idle well...it might sound a little meaner than a stock idle, which is what some of us want anyway. I can't answer you on the reliability issue...that all depends on the tuner/builder/driver. If you start your car and shut if off without a full warmup, then you should be fine, since you will want to have an aftermarket EMS on the car anyway.

What rearend are you using? There is no way that an NA rearend will last with that much torque? Or is spinning tires the rearend insurance? Buy a T2 rearend.
Anything to save one RX7 from the car crusher monsters is OK with me. He did buy it with no engine. Too many RX7's are being stripped for parts after an engine blows. Especially the 86-88 ones that are relatively cheap with blown engines. And the photos show 4 lugs-- a base model. Definitely get 5 lug vented all around brake rotors and 4 piston front calipers. You need all the help you can get when stopping from those instantaneously reached outrageous speed bursts.
If I find one really cheap up here in the NE in good condition, I might consider it for a swap. Especially if it has an automatic, because I don't believe that NA autos are sports cars. My friend has an 87 GXLauto and it is slower than my 91 vert. Plus, you won't have to hunt down a shifter and stealth is the ultimate ally.
Too bad that there are no motormount/kmember kits for the Buick V6.
That 4.1L seems to have a history no better than most high output rotaries. You need to go to a rebuilder with EXPERIENCE to build any engine that will be reliable and powerful. I don't have a recipe for a 400hp horse rotary or even a 400hp Buick. But, as I flip through all those rotary webpages out there, it is possible. Choose your own route and be happy with it.
