misfired, blew fuse WTF?

misfired, blew fuse WTF?

I was racing my friends 02 GT Celica the other day, i had a really good start on him, but then i misfired shifting into 2nd, i heard the gears grind up real loud, then my RPM dropped, gas, battery, oil, and all the needles except speedometer. I stopped, and checked everything. I checked the fuse, the METER 7.5A fuse blew out, so I replaced it, turned ignition, and the fuse blows out again. I know theres some kinda short under the dash, because it happens when I turn the key, not as soon as i put the key in. So anyways, jus wanna know if anyone else has had this problem be4, and what they did to fix it, thx in advance

Its pretty hard to blow out a fuse shifting, but I would try un-plugging the reverse light switch, since it uses the same fuse and is on the tranny. Either that or maybe the wire(s) to the tranny for reverse is pinched.

Although I must admit I am grasping at that one.

Check out the neutral sensor. That might also be the culprit. I wouldn't go as far as checking the ECU... diagnostics are very costly and time consuming.

As a last resort, you can smoke test it. Just put in a bigger fuse, and whatever smokes - that's the problem.
