FL Meltingish injector plug... *Pic*

Just got the car a couple weeks ago and wanted to do all the proper maintenance on it. So I pulled the upper/lower intake manifolds off and when I disconnected one of the injector harness plugs, it looked like the insulation melted a bit...

Does this look to be caused by surrounding heat from the engine? Or more likely to be some kind of short?

I can say the car was running fine and actually Idling quite well... Anyways, onto the pic.

Edit: It's off of one of the primary injectors and the car is an 87 base model.

So has any actual wire insulation melted? show a better pic of the connector itself.

I'll take a better pic when I get home, but from what I've seen, none of the actual wire insulation has melted, only outer black rubber on the plug.

the harness may have come from a car that had a minor FPD fire that only singed the outer shell of the wiring. if the wires are fine i wouldn't worry about it.

might as well replace all the injector clips while you are in there. they are only about $20 and will last another 20 years.

Ya,I would do that too, seeing as you got everything apart right now.
Go ahead and get new injector clips from www.kgparts.com or www.injector-rehab.com (same owner,Keith Gibbons).
the pigtail injector connectors are about 6 bucks each, and he ships quick.

I'm new to electrical work, but I'm assuming that would require soldering the wires?

Soldering and heat shrink is the best way to do it. Or you can use a non-insulated butt crimp and heat shrink it. Worst case scenario, just use insulated butt crimps.
