Melted air filter gasket - POS

Last year a put in a new air filter from DAP.
It was about the time Advance AP was buying them out.

I was pulling the air box Saturday, and I get this black goo on my hands - WTF?
The air filter gasket had melted into a viscous tar.

Here you can see how it puddled in the outlet.

It took me almost 2 hours to clean the inside of the AFM.

The air box & TID wasn't worth cleaning, so I cobbed together a Home Depot TID.

Like Mom used to say: "When you get lemons - make lemonaid!

Wow, thats pretty crazy. I guess the air filter couldn't hold up to the awesome heat of a rotary engine.

If I still had the receipt, I could file a claim.

I have always had a CAI on this car.

I already went with a Ractive heat shielded cone.

But for anyone looking there is one on e-bay right now.

You're right - I need to check it as soon as the rain stops.
I hate to imagine the inside of IC.

This is a classic example of why it's worth paying a few extra buck for OEM parts. It's good you posted this SureShot, people need to see this stuff.
