Mechanical Gauges

I want to Install a Mechanical Water temp gauge in my Rx7, i was wondering if anyone has tried just teeing off where the stock water temp sending unit is located, If wanyone has done this or has any better ways of going about it some advice would be great

It seems to me there would not be any space. Most mechanical water temp senders are fairly large.

I was thinking i could put a brass T in that way i could keep the stock gauge functional, im just not sure if i would get enough flow into the brass fitting to get an accurate reading on the gauges.

I think you would end up measuring the temperature of the adapter and not the water. Notice how most water temp sendors actually stick into the water a fair amount instead of just ending at the threads.

Whats better a mechanical water temp gauge or a elct. one i want to do my 87 TII with one but i don't know witch one to get. BTW where would you connected it to. Sorry to hi-jack but i was just going to post when i saw this thread. Thanks Tony

a mechanical gauge is more accurate, if its a 13b motor i can tell you where it connects but im not really familiar with an 87' wherever you can get the sending unit in the coolant stream is basically where to connect it, the biggest problem is finding a good spot, on my 89 rx7 im just trying to figure out an easy way of installing one without much modification
