Mechanical Clutch Fan Bolts?

Hi,

The guy I bought my RX-7 from had installed a E-Fan, but since i am having issues with cooling now that it is summer, I wanted to convert it back to the mechanical with shroud. He gave me both of these when I bought the car though.

My question is, when I went to remove some bolts to mount the fan on the water pump pulley, all 8 bolts are basically the same size, 4 are threaded all the way to the end, the other 4 are threaded almost all the way to the end, but they are excactally the same length. None of the 8 wil just clear the fan bracket you use to mount the bolts. Are 4 of the bolts supposed to be longer than the other 4?

4 bolts are for mounting the pulley to the water pump and 4 are to mount the fan to the pulley. its been a while as ive been using an e- fan but try it out i think thats how it goes together. if not go to ace hardware and buy metric bolts try and comeback till you get the right bolt sizes.

Yeah,

I just could not belive that the 4 bolts that are in there arn't the right ones. All 8 bolts are installed so he must have put 4 shorter bolts from somewhere in there.

Are you having cooling issues when going fast or slow? Fast has nothing to do with the fan unless it's staying on. In which case it can mess up airflow.

As I recall, you should have 4 studs, 4 bolts, and 4 nuts with washers. The studs fit into the water pump hub. You fit the pulley over the studs, and fasten it with the 4 bolts. Then the fan/clutch assembly fits over the studs (I believe the fan's hub is shaped so that it somehow clears the pulley bolts), and you fasten it with the 4 nuts and washers.

I don't remember the stud sizes, but they're probably 6mm x 1.25mm x 30mm (that's a guess) or thereabouts.
