Mechanic woes
Hey there i'd like to share something that i find a bit odd, maybe some people with many years of rotary experience can see if they agree. So i had a problem with my clutch about 2 months ago, just had a new clutch put in November and had a problem getting it to go into gears, nothing to do with hydralics or anything. Anyways so it turns out the pivot ball had worn itself flat like mushroomed over, very odd they said they have never seen it happen before. So they put in a new one and it drove perfect. Then about a month ago i started to feel the same feeling, hard to get into gears and it wasn't the hydralics, so i take it back , and low and behold the new one has mushroomed over and worn away, this time within like a month of the new one. Once again very odd. They said it's my fault that i must have a bad habit of leaving my foot on the clutch or something, which i don't. I don't drive around with my foot on the clutch that would be stupid. If that was true then after driving this car for 5 years already, i would have screwed over the pivot ball a lot sooner than 5 years. So how come i have driven it for 5 years and then i understand its possible to have that happen its an old car etc etc. But happen again one month after a new one went in? And to charge me for it again. Then when it was in there, they said i had a oil leak in one of my main oil lines, and said it was 250 to replace. I didn't know i had an oil leak , maybe a small one, then i got it fixed. Now a week later, i have a way worse oil leak, like a litre gone in 3 days. They say bring it in again, im hoping to be fixed for free. Anyways..
In your opinion are they jerking me around esp with the pivot ball deal, or is it a misinstalled clutch in the first place? Any ideas?
Btw, this is a rotary specialist place.

Clutch
Hope you can open the attachment. To my knowledge The clutch actuating lever
(fork), part 5, does not have a pivot ball. It has been a long time since I have installed a clutch in an RX7. I seem to recall that the Fork is hinged rather than using a pivot ball. Click on image for an exploded view.

It definitely has a pivot ball. That funny spring inside the fork is what retains the fork against the ball.
Did they replace the pivot with a Mazda part? Did they grease it? What kind of clutch do you have?
If they did not fix your problem, then it is partially their fault for not diagnosing the real cause. You should not have to pay 100% and they need to figure out what is really happening. The fact that they had never seen it before should have led them to examine other possible causes than just "wear and tear".
As far as the lines, they probably didn't use new crush washers or anneal the old ones. The old ones can be re-used if heated red hot with a propane or mapp torch. This brings back their malleability and ability to form a seal, which I believe is lost due to compression/work hardening.
Where are your new lines leaking from?
