mechanic says he cant hear a vacuum leak

ok, my s4 t2 has a high, fluxuating idle (sometimes as high as 2300 rpm)

I took it to my mechanic, who is competent with rx-7s and he says he cant even listen for a vacuum leak because of my intake (it is pretty loud). I have a cone filter on there. He says I need to reinstall the stock air box in order to see if there is a vacuum leak. Although I trust him, I've never heard of this problem before and I would like you guys to give me your thoughts.

Please, dont tell me to just fix it myself, I am way too busy.

tell him to spray starter fluid into the engine bay and listen to see if it raises the idle more

also check TPS

look in the fsm...its got more write ups than you could imagine. the initial set coupler is one of the test plugs by the leading coil

does the idle level ou to 1000 or so after the car is warmed up? it would need to be a pretty big vacuum leak to not level out. my guess is the idle cam screws on the back of the TB need adjustment. also TPS.
