Mazdaspeed short shifter = no reverse wtf? (searched)
I installed a Mazdaspeed short throw shifter in my car yesterday, and for some reason it will not go into reverse now. The stock shifter goes into reverse fine (but it has bad bushings), and the Mazdspeed shifter worked just fine in my last TII. I seem to have everything lined up properly. Kinda stumped here. Did I overlook something?
Well it's the same bushings I had on the shifter when it was in my last car. They were new then, and are still good. I've removed it and installed it a few different ways, but still no luck. Weird.
ya i have this promblem as well. it will go in reverse make sure you have a good shift ****. put it in first than throw in reverse. once the car is moving you should be in first when you come to a stop in way so it shouldnt be a promblem to do this and eventually you find out you can do this with out having to put it in first. good luck

Suggestion,..Take the shifter out..Check to see Where the OLD pivot Pin was located on the transmission..DO you have the New Set-up, with the insert with the new Pivot pin Installed in the same location(I am sure it is FRONT)?..You can install that New Insert 180 degrees out(seen it done)..maybe that is what is hampering you from going into reverse.Best of luck.
