Exclamation MAZDASPEED Motor mounts and horrible vibration

Hey folks. I recently installed Mazdaspeed motor mounts when putting a fresh motor in my T2. I had never driven the car before as i bought it with a blown motor. The car begins to virbrate reaaaaally bad above 4000 rpm. It does this both under accel and in neutral just revving the motors. I also installed a 13.9 lb flywheel and appropriate counter wheight which i had several people confirm for me was the correct one. Any ideas? This is not a little extra vibration from the mounts, it's pretty bad.

Well there's your problem!!

The front and rear counterweight series must match the rotor's series. Ask me how I know.

No they don't, you THINK they all match but they don't.

Did you measure the C/W and verify or are you trusting what others have told you?

I did the same thing you did, and had the same vibration in the same rpm range. I also trusted the person who sold me the S4 counterweight, well it turns out that it wasn't. And yours isn't either.

No...they do match. i do plenty of home work when buying my parts. I sourced the counterweight, I triple checked it, and i had my previous engine builder verify as well as the person who built the motor. In the end, i put in the mazdaspeed tranny mounts i was too lazy to put in before and now all is well. Stock 20+ year old mounts were bad.

And to answer your question, no, I rarely trust what other people tell me. That is why I didn't pull my tranny to inspect the counter weight you were so certain was wrong.

Thanks anyways for trying to help and sharing your experience, it truly is appreciated.

Happy rotoring.

Make sure your 'U' joints in your driveshaft are free of excessive play and make sure that your Engine and drivetrain alignment are straight. Just pointing out the basics. lemme know how it turns out. Good luck brother of spinning triangle.

Brand new Mazdaspeed motor mounts as of yesterday. Had them in the "pain in the ***" box with my dts eliminator bushings and crap like that. The vibrations are gone now except for the extra from the MS motor and tranny mounts. Now i have to hunt down a water pump housing, the nipple on the back of mine rusted though and blew out the hose. Silly rotaries.

@ farberio- the bad mounts (as stated above) were the stock 20+ year old mounts.

@trooper001- no kidding, right? I replaced all the vaccum, fuel and coolant hoses during rebuild to avoid that kind of thing. Guess it doesn't make difference when the hard part is bad. Oh well.
