mazdaspeed coilovers

ive come across some used mazdaspeed coilovers for the fc and i was thinking of buying them, but i cant find much info on them. on the catalog, it says the coilovers dont come with struts or coils. so i dont really know what this guy is selling. does anyone have more infor on mazdaspeed coilovers? like are they dampening and ride height adjustable? how do they feel, better for autoX, drift, or just for track, is it survivable as a DD coilover? i like stiff rides, but i dont want to feel like im having a seizure if i approach some road thats not perfect.

How much are they? MS stuff tends to be pretty pricey. You might do better with some new Tein or Stance or something, they both have some pretty good stuff and can be sent for rebuilds in the US, at least Tein can anyway.

What are you planning to use the car for?

What he may be selling is the threaded tubes that accept Koni cartridges. Mazdaspeed sells these as do a few other places (Rotor Sports, AWR, etc).

Scroll down until you see "AWR EO4-7202, FC3S 2nd Gen Front Strut Tubes". The rears are right below it, it's a threaded collar that slides over the rear shock.

i dont know exactly what he is selling, but i do know his sn here is houstonderk or something, hes parting out his car and im thinking of getting his "mazdaspeed coilovers" for 400 + trade for stock struts/springs. I read on the mazdaspeed catalog that the "coilovers" dont include springs/struts, but idk if there are actual MS coilovers. just wondering. this car is my DD but i want to try some SCCA stuff when i think my car is ready/ im ready.

The FC coilovers usually come with Koni Yellow dampers and Eibach ERS springs. The standard springs are F400lb/R275lb, but there are many optional springs. Keep in mind that you really need to replace your mounts and bushings at the same time, otherwise the stiff coilovers will destroy your car and/or themselves. Also, do you know the condition of the dampers, springs, and bump rubbers? Do have access to a spring tester to make sure they match? Parts are not cheap to replace, and if you don't know what he is selling then you shouldn't be buying it.

I have them on my 2Gen coupe, and also had the Tokico versions on my 1Gen RX-7. The FC Koni/Eibach combo is pretty stiff, but still streetable on well-maintained streets. When combined with the associated stiffer mounts, bushings, sway bars, camber/caster plates, etc., it is a good entry-level suspension for SCCA IT/EP racing. If you drive on bad roads, then you should not put any type of race-level suspension on your car. If you don't like stiff rides, then you should buy a separate car for racing in SCCA track events. I recommend just checking out the SCCA classified ads where you can pick up a decent car for $10-20K, which is half of what it would cost you to make it yourself.

If you want to get good pricing on race parts, then just enter 2 autocross events with your current car and submit your application to Mazdaspeed Motorsports Development. Unlike the internet ricer "sponsorship" scams, membership is free.

Stance is usually about the same price, while Tein is usually a few hundred dollars more. Given that I have never seen anybody race well with Stance or Tein, I think I would rather stick with the race-proven Mazdaspeed setup or the race-proven ISC Bilstein or JRZ setup. Since I have not been to the races for a while, you may want to check with our racing subforum to see what the winning IT or EP RX-7s are using nowadays.
