Unhappy Is Mazda trying to rip me off??

Okay, I just got back from the Mazda dealership because the new thermostat that I ordered came in, and while I was there, I figured I'd go ahead an order some more parts that I need. I'm going to be swapping in a ported stock turbo, and so while I was going to be at it, I figured I might as well replace those two short air hoses that lead from the intercooler to the turbo. You know, that one with the 90degree bend in it from the intercooler to that bypass chambery thinger, and that littler one from that to the turbo? Well at the Mazda dealership, they want $26.40 for the tiny hose, and $63.74 for the 90degree bend hose! That's $90.14 for two tiny-*** hoses! Eek. So I went to an Advance Auto Parts or whatnot, but they guy who was helpin' me said those where some crazy hoses and that he really couldn't help me. He suggested that I get them from the dealer.... thanks for the hot tips, pal.

What's a cheap alternative to buying the OEM hoses?

Oh, and another thing... I could probably use a new 02 Sensor, and they want $224.18 for one. Do those things really cost that much?

I got a universal Bosch O2 sensor at my local auto parts store for less than $20. Just clip the old wire and crimp/solder the new one.

mazdaformance.com can get ANY stock part for the car - you gotta call them, though . Brian is SUPER nice and VERY knowledgeable, and can help you out.

Unless those rubber hoses are really fubar, don't bother replacing them. If you need good ones, just get 'em used - they're a dime a dozen. The rubber hose going from the turbo to the pipe heading to the intercooler does commonly get hard and crack, but you can just replace it with a silicone coupler - no reason to get the rubber dealer part.

they wanted like ~40 bucks for the heater hose that runs to the firewall...why is it so expensive? "its a custom fitted hose"...B.S. i used 2 90 degree bends of heater hose with a joiner in the middle and it worked like a charm.

oh and you must always remember:

Mazda OEM parts are plated in gold, encrusted with diamonds, and made by God.

Note to self : Start selling OEM parts on petty back alleys in trench coat.

Yes/No.....They are trying to pay their mechanics a living wage and paying the State and local taxes through YOU. Just like any other business. Plus, the boss has a new boat payment to make and thought you'd like to contribute.

Like the posts above suggest, work around the new parts. Cobble hoses that fit good but don't cost a fortune.

There is a time and place to do work-arounds:

A Good place is the TID

A bad place is:
Cooling system hoses.

We already are at a disadvantage with hacked on 15 year old heater core inlet and outlets and the location under the oil filter.

My recommendation:
1. Replace the oil filter adapter base O-rings
2. Use MAZDA OEM heater supply and return hoses.

If 20 bucks for the correct hose is going to break your budget you have no business owning a TII. These cars DO REQUIRE CORRECT MAINTENANCE.
