mazda rx7 *86* problem

My mazda rx-7 *86* won't go into 5th gear and just makes a clunking noise. I think it might be the throwout baring or the trasmission *prays its not the tranny*. But what do some of you think it might be?

If every other gear works, definetly not the throwout bearing...

Funny thing is, if you lost your 5th/rev shifter fork, you shouldn't have reverse either...I think...I'm not exactly a tranny guru, but I figured you needed a bump

Maybe the shifter bushings have degraded to the point that you are not getting the lever over far enough to hit 5th?
