Mazda RX-7 GT-R....GT-X???

Hey just wondering if anyone knows the differences between these model trims.

JDM FC3s came in GTR and GTX.

Is there any difference or is it BS.

GT-R is the base turbo model, GT-X is the better turbo model, GTU is base (N/A), GTUs is the same as GTU but with sport package. SEARCH!

Just think of the GT-R as a base model.
Some came with *steel* wheels!
Most (all?) came with manual windows.

The GT-X is just a higher trim model...
All power...
Leather interior...
Heavier...

Yeah, perhaps you better search. The GT-R and GT-X are Japan-only models. The GTU and GTUs (which he wasn't asking about) are US models.

Okay, here's a run-down of the different models and their standard equipment. I found this on a Japanese site ages ago and kept meaning to post it up.

All models including the base GT-R had power steering, fog lights, and AM/FM radio and a rear wiper, and all had 205/60 tires on 15" rims.

The GT-X added alloy wheels, central locking, power windows, a leather steering wheel and a cassette player. It was also the only model to have a rear spoiler and an LSD.

The GT-Limited model added ABS, A/C, cruise control and a sunroof.

The GT-Limited SE and Cabriolet models added leather seats and a CD player.

I suspect items like alloy wheels, A/C, cruise control and a CD player were optional on models that didn't get them standard because they're more common on Japanese FC's than the above list would suggest.

^ good info, that should be added to the archive somewhere.

What was the badging on the fenders like for the GT-Limited and GT-Limited SE? I've only seen GT-X and GT-R on JDM fenders. GT-R had no LSD? Since it was a turbo is the GT-R diff better than the USDM na diff?

I believe the GT-Limited SE also had the Mazdaspeed bodykit and MS wheels.

Some of the japanese spec cars are not equiped with a turbo...

Instead they were equiped with a primary axis cold fusion flux capacitor attached to the mr. fusion relay throttle body dynamic chamber..

.. of course they were all equiped the a turbocharger!!!! Everything in japan has a turbo and a rear wing.. even toaster ovens and microwaves, hence 'turbo' inverter defrost.

I would have thought it common knowledge, even for someone with limited time on this forum.

Ask yourself when was the last time you saw a jspec nonturbo engine on ebay, then it should click.

Perhaps, the way i asked the question if you look above was kinda like "And these were all turbo's right?"

I tend to pay much more attention to the technical content rather than the phylisophical or historical content on this site. Sorting through the BS and the valuble information within just the purly technical threads is enough to give a guy a headache on this site. Wouldn;t you agree?

I also dont do a lot of browsing for "JDM" stuff on ebay. I tend to be more product targeted for a specific need. Not that I am infering anthing back to you or anyone else. Just not all that enamered with the terms "j-spec" or "JDM".

I was just giving you a hard time...

Knowing which FC's are turbo in a foreign country is as inimportant as knowing that TYPEWRITER, is the longest word that can be made using the letters on only one row of the keyboard.

As you stated RockLobster.. attention to the technical content is much more important than knowing the history of the FC.

Cheers,

Ben

Unsurprisingly, the GT-Limited has stickers that say "GT-Limited". Dunno about the SE, I've never seen one.

GT-R had no LSD? Since it was a turbo is the GT-R diff better than the USDM na diff?
It's a TURBO diff just like every other FC Turbo has anywhere in the world. It just has an open centre instead of an LSD centre.

Not stock it didn't. When the FC was new Mazdaspeed was just a racing and tuning company with ties to Mazda dealers. They had nothing to do with new cars. That didn't happen until 2001.

I've been on this forum for years, longer than you in fact, and I've been building rotaries since 1997, and this is the first time I've heard of this. Not everyone is a JDM *****. Though I have allway's been a SA/FB and FD guy until about 2 months ago when i got my first FC.
Good info though thanks.

You're right but as I understand it, before they were Mazdaspeed, they were Finish Line. Finish Line released an areo kit in 1986 here in the U.S. which bares an uncanny resemblance to the one on the GT-Limited SE. When I posted, I was assuming that Mazdaspeed = Finish Line and the kit was the same.

1986 GXL with Finish Line kit:

1986 Savanna GT-Limited SE:

Is this not a typical GT-Limited SE?

I got the images from here and here.

Know I know why you keep calling it a "GT-Limited SE".
That's not what it was called.
The "GT-Limited" is a special edition.
The words "special edition" is NOT part of the model name.
So, you can drop the "SE" part...
