Mazda Reman. engine. A little steep??

I just called a Mazda dealership for a price on a remanufactured engine for my car. Its a 90 TII. they wanted $2541.40 for the reman. + $1000 core fee?!?!?! Isnt that REALLY high? I was told that I could get a reman. from mazda for $16-$1800 bucks?

Price increased over the past year. Try calling Ray at Malloy Mazda in Va. he may be able to save you some $$$

For that price, why not get a nice rebuild + streetport + reliability mods? You could have a REALLY nice engine built from a shop for $2600...

Mazda always uses brand new rotor housings, that's one of the advantages of a factory reman.

That's not true. Mazda will re-use a housing if it is within spec.

The $1000 core charge is refunded to you when you send your core back to them. Call Ray at Malloy Mazda he'll give you a good price. And mazda does not always provide new housings. If it is within spec they will reuse it. Getting new housings is luck of the draw. Also if you do order it make sure they provide you with a bolt as some of the oil pans have the bung for the cold start assist. Ask me how I know all this.

do they charge more for new housings, or is it always that price? Almost makes you think that you should get ahold of some crappy housings so that mazda will replace them

You dont get a choice. It's luck of the draw. I've heard rumors about people disassembling their cores prior to sending them in and scarring the housings to force mazda to come out with more new housings in their REMANs.

I am also sure they DO NOT always come with new housings, but I have heard more and more new housings coming out most likely due to all the cores they receive being in unuseable shape. My REMAN came with new housings if it means anything to you.

How could you tell your Mazda Reman had new housings?

Normally used housings will come painted aluminum on a REMAN, mine had no paint and looked brand spanking new.

They do? I was pretty sure they used new rotor housings with typically used irons, but I don't know anyone who's acutally spent the money on a factory reman.

Thought I got that info from Ray, but I guess not.

I've spent the money on a REMAN and got it from Malloy Mazda through Ray. He told me it was luck of the draw. Guess I got lucky.
