master cylinder rebuilt with kit... works for few months....
I rebuilt the master cylinder thinking i solved my problem.. okay wrong. tomaro i leave for college in the morning and today it decides to go out. my question is why? the cylinder itself is smooth no scratches. it was honed and everything.. it leaks internaly and none of the seals have a scratch or hole of any sort on them. after a while the clutch just does not come back up. also what are your sugestions. another rebuild kit would probly fail too right? are there more robust internal aftermarket kits out there then what i can find at nappa? i've even swaped the whole assembly with another cars and same problem a month or 2 down the road... fluid bypass. so what the hell is wrong with this thing? when i tak eit apart there is fluid on the wrong side of the plunger thats how i know its bypassing

knowledge junkie
I recommend people use the rebuild kit to gain the experience of hoaning out & rebuilding brakes and various systems. It's invaluable knowledge.
Where people go wrong (including me) is not buying the measurement tools to verify tolerances.
But it's usually more practical to just buy a fully rebuilt & assembled setup if it's a daily driver, since it's warenteed & guarenteed tolerances. But your right, I rebuilt my brake calipers even though Mazda informally says "don't do it" since it was cheaper.
Did you rebuild both the SC & MC ??

Yeah i have never had any luck rebuilding that kinda ****.
Wanted to save money so i rebuilt the MC on my CJ5 just to have it break less than a year later. Girlfriends car had same problem so i had mechanic friend rebuild hers and it is now leaking again after about a year. When mine went out on my GXL i just bit the bullet and dropped about $100 on a new MC and SC.

Actually there is a perfectly good reason(as stated by vaughnc)..............tolerances.
Tools needed....ID / OD Micrometer and possibly even a finish gauge.
Now we know why auto repair shops will not rebuild really anything but MAYBE drum brake wheel cylinders. (at least no shop I`ve ever had experiance with)
And yes, I rebuilt my four pot front calipers with the Mazdatrix rebuild kit (OEM Mazda). So far so good but it has only been a couple of months now.
