MASS T2 confusion

i have a 89 gxl and an "EXTRA" 88t2 engine. can i run a 89-91 t2 ecu and afm/tps? will i have to worry about fuel problems? i know the 87-88 t2 engines have lower compression. can i just boost higher to compensate? i am aware that inorder for the car to work the OMP must be plugged in and grounded to the frame. i also know i need the 89-91 injectors. i have a "higher" flow intake and 2.5 downpipe straightback. with an fcd what do i do fellas....and ladies(ya never know).????i have the t2 fuel pump also with a/f and boost gauges.. bottom line can i run the 87 t2 with a 89 t2 ecu

its a huge pain. You need to realize that the series 5 uses an electric metering pump. The 87-88 t2 has a mechanical. When the series 5 ecu sees the metering pump has a problem, it goes into fail safe it will barely run. The harness for the 87-88 is different as well, you will have modifiy the harness to work with your dash harness or your instruments, warning lights wont work. Your better off keeping the series 4 harness and ecu and running an Apexi SAFC. The advantages you might gain with a S5 ecu dont outweight the huge pain its going to be getting it to work.

i am aware of the omp metering pump issues. it just needs to be grounded and that solves the problem. i have an 89 gxl so the s5 harness to s5 harness will work. people swap all the time. so what the gay boost gauge wont work:-)

No you cant just ground it. Trust me. I have an 89 motor with an 87 front cover /water pump housing and mechanical OMP. The ecu periodicly checks the position of the OMP and that motor is functioning. Its does alot more than you think.

I'll buy your tII motor. Maybe I'll even go pick it up for you. Send me a PM with information about the motor like miles and compression numbers. Thanx!

Get an 89+ TII front cover, and run the 89 OMP.
