Mapped ECU opinions

I posted this in the ECU section and got no response so......

I am looking into purchasing a remapped/chipped ECU and have some questions. I am looking for a SAFE way to gain SOME performance. I am NOT intending to go for maximum hp/run more than 10psi boost.

I know that the fuel cut and rev limiters will be eliminated, and the fuel trims changed with the ECU. My sig has my current mods.

What are your opinions? Would you pay over $250???

Mike

well you are are not going to find a new one for less the $250!! G-force was a good one but they are gone now. I think they were $400 for the chip plus shipping the ecu both ways to install it. I think MD race is the only company left for new ones. I think they are $400 as well. if you look around you could probably find a used ecu that has aready been chiped already for less, there were a few knight sport ones floating around a couple weeks ago on the partstrader for around $350 or so.

I'd much rather have a chiped ecu then an hks f-con.

but I'm waiting till I get my haltech

I'm thinking about doing an ECU upgrade as well, or AFC.
Here are some that provide ECU upgrades for TII's:

www.mdrace.com

www.uprd.com I think these are the guys that acquired G-Force...something I read somewhere, not sure though.

www.japtrix.com Their site looks like they do FC mods and indicates G-Force ECU upgrades but I haven't received e-mail reply from them. I know they exist because I've seen their cars at the track.

www.jetchip.com

Let us know what you decided on and how well it works...

Why do you want a remapped chip?

BTW, I think that G-Force is out of business.

This setup was used on my old t2. (now in the hands of an old friend).

Okay...for off the shelf, use Superchips. The package includes the bled valve for boost adjustment and the installed chip. Mind you that this was back in '89. It was the very first chip I had used. They had claimed HP up to 255HP and increase in torque. It was spot on, with all upgrades on a stock block and turbo. I do have the dyno results to back it.

Ran constant 13.9's @ Sears Point back in '94, temp @ 74F.

All Mods as follows;
RB
-Full turbo back
-Ultra Steet ignition wires (upgraded to Nology same results)
-Dual pully
-Oil cooler lines
-Clutch line
-break lines
-Light steel flywheel
-Street/Strip clutch
-full suspension....sways, links, ALL bushings, springs, perches, tokiko shocks (exactly the same setup a RB promotional T2)
-rear steer eliminator bushings
Mazdatrix
-strutbar w/torque brace
C's short shift kit (only one avail at that time)
ITG intake (replaces stock airbox)...yes, old school

Your PC should direct link with the ecu. USB I beleive. Just download the correct drivers and you should be set. www.downloads.com has the drivers you need.

The Planet Zylon-Spec RX-7's had a PC interface on them. It is the green test plug next to the benzobisoxazole recirculation valve. Unfortunately, they were made for the legacy computers of the 80's, so you need to download the new Win95+ drivers if you are using a modern Pentium-based computer. The PZ-Spec test plug was made by Dell, which as you know, outfitted their PC's with USB plugs long before any USB peripherals were on the market.

They were actually imported to the US on a regular basis, but the Clinton administration ordered them to meet US smog regulations, so they were retrofitted with US-Spec wiring harnesses. The PZ-Spec mylar paint was too reflective for US DMV regs, so it was sanded down to the white primer and painted-over with black. The only way to tell a PZ-Spec car nowadays is by the "PZ" code next to the VIN on the firewall.

Wow, that's one heck of a drive you have to work each day! No, Planet Zylon is much further away. It's waaaaaaay out there. In fact, I think it's even more way out there than Australia, but I'm not sure.

MAZDATRIX sells a decoder for the PZ REFLECTOMETER so you can tell the difference b/t the old and new PZ. Only 1500 bucks with a core charge of 1200 bucks. Enjoyed you high tech responses to this post EVIL AVIATOR. I'm just a little tired of the fuzzy dice posts. P.S. I have the factory service manual on line for the Black PZ. If interested, send money.

Hmm, I'll have to consult my secret decoder ring. It tells me eveything. I will post a link to the Zylon ECU as soon as i find the link. The ECU is good for 100 hp added to stock. And you even get fusion warp drive included with the deal. Your RX7 will haul some serious *** on this baby.

Will post the link soon!

The Zylon (Zy) is the official currency of Zylon, but they use the British Pound as international currency. However, the black market sale of British Pounds is causing the devaluation of the Zylon, much like what happened to the Tanzanian Shilling. They are considering adopting the Euro, but are a little hesitant to trust the Germans. Here is a Zylon financial report if you are interested:
http://www.corporate-treasurers.co.u...Man6-2test.pdf

The barter system is also thriving on Zylon, and good deals can be found when dealing with the Kogalon Star Pirates based in the nearby Celos IV system. They will quote prices in Zylons, but they will take just about anything in trade. Here is a great deal that I found on some anti-matter:
http://www.vlewis.net/page2.html

This will never get old! I'm in-between jobs, and I need to get my post count up so that I can qualify for a 13G engine.

Sorry for the digression. Back to the ECU thing, why don't you just get an aftermarket EMS? Yes, it's a bit expensive, but it will really help out your performance, and will set you up for bigger and better mods. I just don't see any value in a simple generic "performance" chip.

Haven't you been reading the posts? It's important to know which model you have. For example, you would never want to get one of the RX-7's made at the radioactive Hiroshima plant (J5 code on the VIN plate on the firewall), as exposure to these has been shown to degrade comprehensive and creative thinking. The K8 code is even worse, but I won't go into that.

What nonsense? I take it that you don't have one of the PZ-Spec cars, so you probably don't know what we are talking about. You should really check the code on your firewall VIN plate to see what kind of model your silver 88 SE is, so that way you can converse better with those with the same model. Besides, you should really find out if you have one of the radioactive J5 or K8 cars, as you don't seem to be following this thread very well (no offense). :p
