Back to back Auto-x runs in my FC w/ manual rack and friends w/ de-powered rack really shows how much faster ratio the PS rack is.
3.6 turns lock to lock manual (20.3:1 ratio) and 2.7 turns lock to lock PS (15.2:1 ratio). From the RX-7 book.
My manual rack w/ smaller steering wheel is fine in slaloms and other high speed turns where the rear wants to kick out anyways, it is just accelerating through the really slow box sections and multiple kinks where the rear end locks up and the car wants to understeer that I curse the slow ratio as I pound away on the wheel (don't cross your arms and keep your thumbs out!)
The manual rack is slow for Auto-x, but at least it isn't Porshe 944 slow! RX-7 manual rack 20.3:1 ratio. 944 manual rack 22.41 ratio.
Yeah, RX-7 manual rack is just fine for a sports car, just not a race car

Im running a depowered rack right now. Have been for years. I do have a manual rack im going to put in just to see how well I like it. My only concern is how many times I will have to turn the wheel.
the jump from the 20.3 to the 15.2 ratio has been exceptionally noticeable. if you cant notice a difference that huge i dont see how you'll notice something like a difference in road feel between power rack and manual rack or even the virtually nonexistent difference bewteen depowered manual and original manual.

for me, i gotta turn it about 60 degrees to make the car actually turn but thats only when im going slow/regular speeds. once im going 80mph on a exit ramp, it turns cleannnnnnn
i was driving on a bad PS and like the description above, it was hard. i got my manual rack for $40 bucks from the local pick-n-pull. it feels gooood. im 150 and its nothing for me (after driving with a bad PS). my T2 still has PS and of course the feeling is really light. i still like the feedback of the road through the manual rack though.
my p/s belt broke one time on the way to work and it really doesnt feel that bad. felt like driving my old fb. but i wouldnt recommend driving a de-powered p/s car with an ebay steering wheel. i thought i was gonna break the damn thing!!!
