One way would be just take out the big bolt in the middle of the top motor arms and then theres the easy way which ive never done but on the inside (towards middle of car) side of the motors there is supposivly a little hole you stick a screwdriver in and turn a certain way to unlock or disengauge the motor and there supposed to go up and down by hand pretty easy.

Ive never attempted the second method.......suppose i could go check the manual.....

IF THE TOP CANNOT BE RAISED USING THE SWITCH
1. slide both seats fully forward. Then turn the panel ***** and lift up hte spare tire cover.

2. Insert Phillips screwdriver into the left and right service holes, and turn it clockwise until it can no longer turn.

3. Raise the convertible top by hand.

4. Secure the convertible top using the top lock levers, then close the top lock lids.

5. After performing the above, have your vehicle inspected by an Authorized Mazda Dealer as soon as possible.

CAUTION
This procedure should be followed only in the event of a malfunction, when the top can not be raised by the switch, and not at any other time.

EDIT - I assume putting the top down would be the same thing but ive never tried so how knows.

There you go
Matt
