making my rotary last....

Are there any other ways to keep my rotary motor running longer besides the usual oil changes. I'm not gonna lie.....I do race it a little but I never redline it. I don't wanna blow the apex seals so if any of you know any other tips I would greatly appreciate it.

Redlining it actually is a good thing!! It is what rotaries were designed to do. It breaks up carbon deposits, and helps keep everything runnin all good. Try using 1/4 oz of premix oil for ever gallon of gas when you fuel up. Just pour it in w/ the gas. It will keep everything nice and lubricated in the engine!!

hmm.. I wouldn't redline the engine too often particularly if it has over 100k on it. I don't care if it breaks carbon deposits up or not, you are accelerating engine wear by doing it. Revving it up, yes, redlining it sounds illogical.

heres what u can do. Buy a used junker engine from a junkyard (just engine for 250) Learn how to rebuild it then save around 1500 hondo in a bank. Then just have fun with your engine.

Redlining once in awhile is not a bad thing. I take mine up there maybe once or twice every couple of weeks.

Biggest thing is the regular maintenance. Sounds boring but pays off.

Always start the car with it in gear to bypass the reving to 3k at startup (most engine wear occurs during startup). Don't get on it until its up to temp either.

Regular fluid changes. 3k for oil, 1yr for antifreeze. Always use distilled water with the antifreeze, never use tap water (its full of crap)

Injector cleaner. I run a tank before every 2nd or 3rd oil change.

Get a downpipe. Pre-cats are prone to clogging and when they do you'll get excessive back pressure which is bad for the engine. You'll still pass an emissions sniff test with a main cat only (may have visual test issues depending on where you live)

My car saw full boost redline at least twice a day from 100k to 145k miles, original engine, still runs fine.

Thanks alot guys....that info was very educational and helpful. I have one more question....I'm currently running Castrol "Synthetic Blend" 10w40 oil. Some ppl have told me it's ok for rotaries and some say no it's not. It's not a full synthetic oil....it's conventional oil that acts like synthetic protection. What's ur input on this. I already know not to use "Full Synthetic" on it.
