making my exhaust quiet

Wellm, as much as i like my exhaust now, i have to turn it down a notch. or maybe 6 notches.

heres my current setup

3" downpipe (racing beat)
High-Flow Cat (Borla)
Y pipe from 3" to two 3" pipes
3"mufflers with 4.5" outlet/tip (Meagan Racing)

I like how well my exhaust flows now and I want to keep my dual exhaust.

what im planning on doing is dropping the rear of the exhaust and running 2.5" pipes after the "Y". I have a 2 chamber muffler already but im not sure if i will use it. If i do, i would run it after the cat and then run the dual straight pipes off the back.

my other option is running a long glasspack on each pipe

im also debating on what kind of tip to go with. i was even considering a *slight turndown.

i only have around 100$ to work with for mufflers.
anybody have any suggestions?

Well, I have the apexi N1 duals, which came with the silencers. They are like reducers that you can stick in the end of the mufflers and bolt them in, it really drops the sound level down. Materials to fab something like that would be hard to source, but once you had them it would just be cutting and welding involved and you may be able to stay in that $100 budget.

But I wouldn't suggest that If you want it to be quieter permanently. That would just be an option if your concerned about pissing off your neighbors or driving home from the bar, lol.

the silencers will slow your car down a lot. just get an exhaust that is designed to be quieter, like racing beat. my greddy power extreme wasn't bad either, but you would have to get that used.

The high flow cat is not doing anything as far as toning the exhaust down...

I had a RB 3in dp and a SSautochrome 3in single catback, and the system was LOUD! With a magnaflow high flow cat as a mid pipe, the car was still unbelievable loud.

A borla 3 inch muffler as a mid pipe did the trick, however now that I moved on to the RB mufflers (not really made by racing beat) I can almost guarantee you that if you replace those cheap mufflers, with the SMP (or racing beat) your problems will be solved...

HOWEVER, one 3in muffler will cost you at least $100...

rotaries run way to hot and will melt the glass packs basically, just get a couple resonators, and it should tone it down, and yeah the full racing beat exhaust is pretty quite, and sounds good, i got it on my t2. but i want louder, way louder

The previous owner of my car put glasspacks on my car and they are still intact even now that i have it.

Myt car is fairly loud, but not as loud as the racing beat.

I was talking about the SMB mufflers (sold by RB), and not the full RB catback.

a glass-pack will not melt if its at the end of the exhaust. even the glasspack on my teachers bridgeported scca car lasted a long time.

i thought about welding in the muffler i have laying around in replacement of the borla, but im unsure about the amount of backpressure it will cause. its a welded thrush muffler (POS) that i got when i went down to summit.

i looked at Racing beat mufflers a lot, but its either use what i got or sell my exhaust and fab a new one.

those silencer caps are kind of interesting too. . . but what do they sounds like??

I would steer away from those if you could. All they are is an exhaust "plug", might as well put the stock exhaust back on. I ran some on my FD with Apexi N1's, the back pressure was so great that it split the welds on the muffler. IMO, these "insert" silencer will be alright if you wanted to quiet down for a small amount of time (i.e hot date).

The best way to quiet it down is to replace that cat with a borla xr1 or magnaflow, something with steel wool packing. It'll keep the flow and quiet it down a good bit. The magnaflow will be cheaper than the borla.

Hope that helps.

meineke or the like will have some cheap "turbo" mufflers that actually do a pretty decent job. a lot better than the ebay ones you have.
