i am doing the same thing, and they are really bright. i can't remember the wattage, but after the first day, i noticed that the top edge of my ftp lenses are satarting to melt a little. too high wattage, huh?

i just checked the ebay auction i got them from. 100w. a little high, no? :D

the FTP lenses are melting??!?!
man that must be bright....

actually i want to know how long it takes you guys to do this mod.
and comparing to the real J-spec lights.... do these "clear" FTP lights look better than the non-clear REAL J-spec FTP lights?

mine have warped a little but havent melted... its not even noticeable unless the FTP is out of the car

right, that's what mine are doing. when i pulled them out, one has a hole melted in the top, but you can't see it unless you pull it out. the other one is fine, just warped a little.

now to figure out how to change the bulb...:)

Maybe someone wanna try using LED lights instead? LED's dont produce nearly as much heat as conventional bulbs.

i'm actually working on that. I don't like the idea of cutting my body parts. So LED's my alternative.

Will LEDs be bright enough? i mean looking at this picture

the ftp lights looks VERY bright... i wonder if LEDs will be as bright....

the LED's i'm using are around 10,000MCD. They are pretty bright for LED's. But i know they will definitely not be as bright as ryosuke's. But still, they will create a very noticeable light which is very clean in color and should still be seen very easily.

remember that LED's are directional... so you wont completly light up the FTP as much as a bulb will.. i've already tried it...

but there's a way to spread the light also. They're directional because they have a domed top. If you change the shape of the top, they'll shine a different way. I already did some mathematical equations and found a good curve to use. It will spread the light really evenly but with less intensity. That's why i got 10,000MCD ones so they still shine brightly when the light spreads instead of points.

well, i remember buying some LEDs online for my old Celica..... they were "M shaped on top

below that dip so it shines outwards in a V shape....

well, but those bulbs cost alot... =( and they wern't very bright.....
is there a way to use normal bulbs but maybe some sort of clear heatshield? (just an idea) i remember in the instrument cluster of my old celica, the bulbs had a soft color "rubber" that covered the bulb.... what if we use a blue "rubber" cover to give it a "SOMEWHAT" blueish and white color AND it will decrease the temperature (maybe too insignificant though...) (DON'T KILL ME... JUST AN IDEA ):D
