It's not hostility, it's a discussion. Yes, it is much different than the fluff you find on the smaller forums that only have one or two informed individuals running a question and answer service. Here you can get lots of opinions and perspectives, which does tend to be strange for those used to one guru preaching the automotive gospel on their little internet forum.

hey this is treezan again and astrochild posted my last post......first of all to me it looked like it would help with downforce at higher speeds.....second i saw it as an opportunity to make something that you cant entirely get in the states unless you pay an assload of money for, and as far as im concerned i dont see it as rice considering i have never seen these on a civic or an integra and the only cars i have seen them on have been on silvias and fc, and fds in japan so i thought a few people would be interested considering it wouldnt be to hard to make and that i enjoy making things and getting creative....but if its purely cosmetic then i could see where it could be consdered rice....but the way i see it corksport sells them for 286 a set why not be produce somehting for my fellow FC guys for less and in fiberglass, and let people pick and choose depending on their taste..honestly they wouldnt go on my car...the second pic i posted is exactly what i am planning on doing as soon as i get this hood project going...minus the fins....and no its gonna be a little bit before im going to be liscensed bonded and insured, until then ur gonna have to deal with a disclaimer..........i dont have the resources for a wind test and drag coefficients BS......im making stuff for the rotary communiyt because i love my car and i know we cant get anything here unless we get raped so im trying to go homegrown here so it costs everyone less, it looks good and i get to do what i enjoy and make some bux on the side......hell i have been in this town a week now workin every minute makin this happen if i can and you want me to be bonded and liscensed and windtunnel tested???? Yeah thats way out of my leauge...at least for a while.....but hey i asked so i guess this is what i get......so im teetering on the edge of saying **** it and not making anything else.....but cant let some **** throw me off course......but hey everyone is entitled to their own opinion....

i kinda like the photoshoped front end....it looks decent, and looks very functional in the cooling/air delivery dept. plus if its fiberglass it means weight savings! (ive got some weird thing for taking weight out of my car) id love to see you get on this project, i bet youd sell a quite a few of those but first, lets see that hood!

I like the idea of the hood/fender strakes to act as spill ways for the high velocity air across the top of the hood to intensify the high pressure affect at the base of the windshield! Why are the Beemer ones so short?

Also, instead of little wing canards- I would like someone to build up add ons to the stock front bumper that extend down in front of the tire. For example, I run 7.5" rim w/ 225mm wide tire so it hangs out in the breeze from the rubstrip level down. If there were add ons that came down from the widest part of the fender down to the lowest part to streamline the tire- that would be great!

Hey, other businesses have licenses, insurance, and R&D, which is part of the overhead that adds to the price of the product. Why should you get any sympathy for undercutting the big boys with an inferior product and inferior support? I think it's great that you want to make products for the FC, but Border went about it the right way, and I think that they are entitled to a higher status than that of a home-made product.

So you never worked at USA?

Oh, one more thing to add to my opinion... It's not rice.

I've never heard of Arizona Community College. However, the chicks at ASU, NAU, and UofA are so it can't be all that bad. For comparison, chicks are DBCC are , and those at ERAU are generally if you can even find any at all.

Man I was just giving you some ****... The reason I even still go to this forum is for the technical information. I know that if I have a problem, I can get a response faster just because there are so many members. Man you're just preaching to the choir. I have been on this forum longer than any other, so I AM used to it. peace.

Dltreezan:

Canards are made out of carbon fiber or metal for a reason. Because they are less prone to break. The way I see it, from an engineering standpoint, your decision to make it out of fiberglass is a poor choice. I'm not sure if you have worked w/ fiberglass before, but there are limitations based on the design (and your choice of materials)...

Fiberglass is not that strong. Assuming that you are using a wet-layup technique, how many layers of fiberglass are you planning to use? A single sheet of fiberglass is too weak strength wise and too many sheets will make it look funny. Also, you still have to mount the canards on the bumper. Assuming that you are making slight flaps on the canards as attachment points, this is already another weak spot because fiberglass is sooooo weak (and odds are, this is where they will break). Double sided tape doesn't work in this case. Professional race teams mount canards w/ rivets (in case you are wondering).

And yes, Evil Aviator is correct regarding businesses protecting themselves w/ insurance coverage.

well first of you are right about wanting to make it out of metal or cf but i thought about taking the half way and making it out of a layer or two of glass with aluminum reinforcement throughout and using that same embedded aluminum and bolting it into the car......that was just my idea as i was throwing it around.....but if i ever decide to make something its going to wait....and about being bondagged liscensed and insured its a defenite must as soon as there is a backbone to move foward......so after we pop out a few hoods so how they look and feel on our own cars then we can get rid of a few and generate some capitol to take care of that overhead

Ok here is my 2 cents... For whats its worth
I used to own and manage Custom Inspriations a custom shop here in Southern Oregon. I was in business for over 4yrs (yes it was a real shop, store front and everything) we mainly dealt with civic stuff (hey I had to stay in business) and not once did I ever see any R&D from aero companys...come on enless your ordering high dollar japan tuner **** it aint going to happen... Every thing comes with "off road use only" no warranty no guarentee NOTHING trust me I dealt with several distributors and companys nobody stands behind there product when it comes to body kits (yes veilside and other top dollars will and that come with what you pay for). This guy is only in the devolment stage and he is not marketing high end race parts he is just talking about making some CHEAP fiberglass parts and that is what our RX7 community needs is some cheap parts! If you are building a car capable of 200mhp why would you want cheap parts? Come on this guy is just sharing his tallents with the rest of us poor bastards, give the guy a bloody break And I happen to really like that bumper I would buy one!

i totally agree with westcoasttuner, if you have the money to make your car go 200 mph you probably also have the money to buy real parts. personally i have no money and i think that front bumper looks sic. i would buy one of those and a hood once they are in production

blue t2 wher have you been man i havent sen you since my first thread...

Oh, I'm always lurkin' around...

I haven't commented on your projects too much as it became apparant this seems to be your 1st forray into the world of composites work. I try not to be too cynical, but I have seen lots of projects fade away fast on this forum.

I hope you suceed, like I said if the quality is there I am very interested. I just gotta keep cool and hope are able to suceed where so many fail. Gotta play it cool

Hey, on the whole canard thing. I guess what I was saying is I would like to see a dual purpose piece; instead of the "standard" canard "winglet", make a piece that is more of an "air dam". So it has the top profile of a canard, but has a full side that comes down and extends back to the front of the front fender to guide air around the front tire/wheel. It would solve the issue of a burly mounting means as well, since you could put a bottom on it and have it bolt to the underside of the front lip and inside the front fender.

Can you picture what I am trying to describe?
