Well, my second gear syncro for my other trannys are still good. (at least I thought they were) maybe I will just take it out of one of them. Yay another day under the rx7.

But, wow why are syncros so expensive?

Because its Mazda and they like shafting poor RX-7 owners.
Also, how hard is it to change the synchros? Is it something you can do without prior knowledge in your garage?

BTW, the Carguest premium 80w90 limited slip is the WORST TYPE of gear oil to use in a manual tranny. ANY GL5 blended with limited slip additives should NEVER by used in a manual tranny. These LSD frictions modifiers work against the synchros making it MORE difficult to shift. This is why I'll always recommend a GL4 gear oil which are almost never used in rearends and never have the LSD additives. Redline has a product called 75w90NS which is a GL5 gear oil WITHOUT the additives. But, I prefer the MT90!
There are other GL5 gear oils(good luck finding them) that can be used in a manual tranny. They'll specifically state not to be used in a LSD diff, or require a bottle of LSD additive.

rebuilding a manual transmission may not be all that difficult for someone who had rebuilt transmissions before but in comparison it is much more difficult than say rebuilding a rotary engine and you see how many people tend to screw that up. as you can see internal transmission questions rarely get answered around here since it is cheaper and easier to just replace the trannies.

price of the syncros ranges anywhere from $35 to over $80 each depending on which you need.

most of the people i give estimates to for tranny overhauls usually wind up just getting a used tranny.

Yeah, I have tried twice now, both ended up being bad (or already had used syncros) >:0( I will try the redline tranny fluid and see if that helps. Thanks.

Me too. I use MT90 in the tranny and their 75w90 gear oil w/ limited slip additive for my LSD.
