Majestic Turbo Upgrade evaluation

Had to take one for the team...I got a ticket, but he cut me some slack down to 79 in a 70. Damn.
Anyway, I promised I'd post a test result when this thing got installed.

I'm hitting 9-9.5 psi in 3rd and 10-10.5 psi in 4th. I lost a little bit of midrange torque in the lower gears as it seems this turbo takes about another 400 (roughly) rpm to get kicking. The guy who did the install seems to think that once the new bearings break in it will spool faster.

If I'm doing 82 in 5th and down shift to 4th it is right there and gets to 10psi fast. Since my OEM was shot and couldn't get me past 7 psi this unit makes the car quite a bit faster.

I'm not concerned about the small lag delay as pretty soon I'll be upgrading fuel and adding a Profec B - my boost should ramp much faster in lower rpms. Then I can really optimize the upgraded compressor.

One thing I noticed, even w/Bonez FCD a couple of times there was a stumble at around 6200-6500 rpm in 4th; almost like a hesitant fuel cut. Most of the time, though it just pulled like a horse. Very satisfied.

Here's the original thread which will describe the upgrade and cost -

Good to hear you like it. It should get better as the bearings break in and stuff. Now I think you have a couple of losses you need to go avenge...

My speedo cable is busted. I had just tached 4th, dropped to 5th to lead a clot of cars with lots of margin before I tapered off to move to my exit.
I have a pretty good idea of my speed and I'm sure you guys do too. That's why I feel fortunate with a 79 in a 70.

I pleaded my case bigtime to no avail. Oh well. Turbo sure sounds sweet though.

Well, went for another spin tonite to see if anything would be different. Still no boost creep. I was thinking this turbo kicks in about 400rpm later than the stock one but after driving tonite I start seeing boost about 3200-3500 and by 4000 it's very quick to 7000 with no drop in boost - very stable.
Had my windows down and when I was in 2nd and giving it some gas and letting off I'd hear it spool, but when I let off I can hear the turbo slow down - hard to describe - it's quiet. My stock one didn't make this winddown sound. I'm guessing it's due to new bearings.

Also have to practice launches again as the power delivery is different and greater. Money well spent - I'm happy.

that's my next mod i guess. The turbo on the car right now is being such a bottle neck. It can't keep up 10 psi. that makes my torque curve look like a roller coaster ride.

Just wanted to say thanks to all the people that responded to my earlier "blue smoke in between shifts post" It was definetly the turbo.
All fixed and back to boost.

So does this turbo bolt up to the stock exhaust manifold?

Yo,

Congrats! I'm glad your FC is up and running again. Too bad about the ticket, see if you can fight it by mail.

Check out:

www.ticketassassin.com

It's for California, but you might be able to do it where you are. Check the back of your ticket. I got out of a 90 in a 50 ticket that way. Phew!

Enjoy your boost and get more fuel in there!

Yes. It's a rebuilt stock unit with upgraded internals. There's plenty of info in the link in my first post of this thread.

With a stock wastegate, be careful!
Is it a S5 wastegate?
I hope so!
I ported the crap out my S4 wastegate and still blew 2 engines with my upgraded turbo.

Yes, everything is series 5. They port the wastegate as part of the process. I'm green or high yellow (rich) on my boost gauge in first 4 gears all the way to redline but I think I'll take it easy in 4th to be safe as I might be taxing my injector's duty cycle till I get the 720cc plumbed with Haltech F5 AIC and Profec B.

Update please! I've got a kouki turbo all packed up and waiting to go. Mine won't be the same, but it'll be pretty good. I just would like to hear how yours is doing.

It's a stage III w/ a TO4E-46 compressor - no clip.

Ran my friend's 10th AE that I used to be dead even with and walked him pretty easily. First run was a straight onramp. I punched it in 2nd with him right behind me. By the time I shifted to 4th I had about 5-6 cars on him. This thing's got killer top end and I'm not thru yet...

Robert is the guy that actually did the rebuild on mine...

This is what's on my invoice EXACTLY (Keep in mind I have a series 5, they may advise you on something different):

HT-18 REMAN & UPGRADE=STAGE 3 T/W 46/TRIM C/W 360* $585.00

OVERSIZE RINGS B/H $25.00

If you'd like more detailed info, there's a link in my first post at the top of this thread. When you get this thing back it looks as new as a turbofan off the Pratt and Whitney assembly line.

I noticed that you did not have your exhaust turbine clipped. I am getting my clipped. So why did you not go for that option?

I am having Kevin do the work to mine. Majestic has done nothing but impress me on the phone and via email. I am hoping the dyno runs impress me. But from what I am hearing I should not worry?

Did they warrenty their work?

I was told by Kevin that the 5-10 degree clip on the compressor is not necessary because of the design/mill of the stage III turbine wheel.

It's a big improvement in itself, I have lost some midrange torque but top end is fantastic. This doesn't concern me because I'm not using a boost controller yet to control boost better.

Six months, unlimited mileage - contingent on evaluating your turbo when they receive it.

OOps...I tried putting my response only in Bold and somehow turned everything bold. what did I do wrong? I inserted my answers into your text and each answer was preceded by and ended with . Don't understand why it bolded yours too.

Wankel7 didn't you already send your turbo to them? When you getting it back? That oughta be mad topend with your streetport.
