Main Wiring Harness Problem (87 TII)

I have a T II and I'm trying to pull the engine out of the bay but I'm having a problem with the main wiring harness. Most of it is easy enough to pull off,but there is a part that runs underneath the injectors and then back under the throttle body and around towards the front again. I would like to know a better way to get these out without having to pull the injector body er the throttle body off. Please help me with this. Thank you.

you have to pull the uim off to get the harness completely off..... it also goes under the rats nest, which has to be removed to get the harness out from under it.... you'll see when you remove the uim.......the uim/tb only take like 15 minutes to remove.... its very simple.... the hardest part is a coolant line that runs to the back of the tb to the top of the block....its a pain in the booty to get on and off

It's easier to pull the harness with the motor. Kevin Landers' website can help you--scroll down to step 4 for his description of the harness removal.

how is that possible tho? there is no breaks or harnesses after the firewall. Are you suggesting that I pull the whole thing through the firewall so that I can pull the harness with the engine. Also, could you please send me the link to the website that you're talking about with Kevin Landers? Thank you for all of your help.

yes pull it out from the firewall.. its not that hard. I think it's actually easier than trying to get the whole harness off while the engine is still in the engine bay.

Crap. I see I forgot to post the link to Rotary Resurrection with my earlier message. Thanks, Vipers, for providing it.

Just unplug it from the ecu. I have done it 3 times now and it gets easier every time. There are a couple of other things to unplug up under the dash as well, they are a PITA but with some funky handy placement its not to bad. The first time I did it I followed the instructions as above, pretty straight forward.

I'm glad you mentioned the other things under the dash, 10AEturboII. It's been a long time since I've pulled a harness, but IIRC, theres 2 plugs from the ECU, and 1 or 2 plugs on the passenger kick panel.

I've had one experience where a plug just would not come out from underneth the dash. I finally just removed the UIM and stripped the engine to the "short block", while in the car, then removed it.
