The vibration would lead in less than acccurate readings

In a stock set up for the AFM, there is very little engine vibration that gets to the AFM.

Remember in a stock setup the AFM is mounted to the air filter housing, which is hard plastic and bolted to the body (not the motor). The AFM connected is then connected to the motor through a flexible tube that bends and deforms as needed to isolate the engine's movement and vibration.

I was just asking because i thought it would look a little cleaner. I dont want to compromise engine performance.

heat would be the other concern. You don't want the AFM to get heat soaked from the Turbo (altough granted; that is less likely to something bolted to the front of the turbo).

what about possibly mounting it to the path of a front mount? would you see any significant gains or anything from that?

sorry if it seems like i'm stealin the thread, but I figured this would be a good place to post that question

I understand that...
That's why I'm hoping to have a standalone before too long...get rid of the MAF completely

just a quick note... MAF = Mass Air Flow (sensor). 2nd gen 7's don't have these... they have AFMs (Air Flow Meters), which are much, much different.
