LSD "clutch chatter" is it bad?
88 Turbo II -
When I am going in a strait line on a snow covered street and I punch the gas, I get a little bit of wheel hop as the rear wheels start to spin (it feels like wheel hop anyways...), after a second of "wheel hop" it is smooth and they continue to spin smoothly. I am guessing that there is something up with my LSD. If I kick it sideways the LSD engages smoothly and doesnt jump like it does when I spin the wheels while going strait. So it seems like the LSD has some "clutch chatter" when it is engaging. Has anyone else experienced this? Is it time for a torsen swap or what?

I've heard that this is kinda the way a clutch LSD will work. (although, I've never had that happen...maybe I can't notice it over all the standard clutch shudder my car has)
Of course, have you checked your diff oil lately?

You might also check your diff mounts and all that crap... Mine used to do the same thing on wet roads (it hasn't been outside the garage from Nov-March since i've owned it). I replaced all the bushings and mounts in the rear end, and that helped a LOT, BUT when i put new struts on it went away almost completely. I think it may be caused by the rear suspension "twisting up" a bit when you first slam it.
