Lsd?
I know this has been posted many times and I hate asking but I read a post the other day that I don't think was correct in determining a Limited Slip Differential.
The test was to prevent the drive shaft from turning by wedging a screw driver in the yoke then turn one rear tire and the other should turn with resistance in the opposite direection. Doesn't sound right to me. All Amreican posi I have dealt with allowed for the tires to turn in the same direction. The TII LSD I have sitting on my bench turns in the same direction.
I have an 89 GTU auto (n/a) and have been told that all of these models came with an open rear end. No tag of course on my dif. Can someone please assist with verification?
With the trans in Park and the drive shaft unable to rotate, my wheels easily turn in the opposite direction. IMO, open rear end.
TIA,
Hank

no series 5 cars with automatics came with LSD so you don't have to worry.
Actually no series 5 cars other than the T2 and GTUs came with LSD as well. None of the others even had it as an option.
BTW: your test method only works on the clutch type LSD. On the Fluid type (as found on again the series 5 cars like yours), you need to tune one wheel back and forth a couple of times to heat up the fluid slightly to get the lock before having both wheels turn the same direction.
