lowering....
ok, so like i said in my last post, im new to the rx-7 world, always been a fan, but new to all the little things... this post is about AAS. my gxl is equiped with Auto Adjusting Suspension. What does it do? of course it adjusts my suspension automatically, but what are the variables that control how much it is adjusted? and can it be lowered, previously i've used coilovers on other vehicles and had great results, cosmetically and performance wise. Can i use coilovers on this car with AAS? Anyone with any answers please reply, thanks....

The AAS controls the stock tokico shock valving. In each mode adjustments are made to the front and rear shocks to maximize cornering ability and minimize other things like squat. The computer in the back turns little solennoids that change the valving of each shock, which in turn changes as you accelerate - aka the 50mph adjustment to tighter suspension.
There is a distinct difference between sport and normal suspension modes in a working system, try wobbling the wheel on a stretch of highway or something and you can feel the humungous difference. Normal is scary in precice movements while sport feels controlled.
You can adjust it yourself if you take off the little motors above each shock and turn the valve control.
Lowering has limited to nothing to do with shocks, but instead with springs. If you wanted to keep your aas you could put any spring over the shock like a tein 1.5" drop or a ground control coilover, but after 20 years and being stock a new shock probably won't hurt either, many people like the kyb agxs due to their low price and manual adjustability. You could get the full coilover sets, but those cost more than $1000 typically. You can not use real coilovers with the aas shocks (unless you got some company to drastically re engineer the shock).
On another note, I want to experiment and see if the stock system can change the adjustments on the KYBs or Tokico Illuminas like the new Tein systems do and our stock system does.

I got tein S techs and KYB struts, lowered my car 1.5 in and handles great. Fairly cheep to boot.
