Low Voltage

hey guys,

Lately Ive been noticeing that my alternator output was low so I changed alternators. but now its like the alternator is over worked.........regular driving my car is only reading like13.7 volts but under heavy acceleration all the dummy lights start to light up and the voltage begins to drop and I was hoping that some one could help me out......Also at Idle the voltage drops to 12.4-12.7 volts..............thanks

Here you go

The alternator on the 7 is crap- so is the wiring
First- Make sure the belt is tight
Clean the battery contacts thouroghly
Make sure the alternator is OK

The undercharging, indicated by the glowing idiot lights- is common, with an easy fix! Lucky you!

Run a heavy, 10 or 8 gauge wire from the + battery terminal straight to the alternator output (charging post)- the nut on top of tha alternator.

Run another heavy wire from the - terminal of the battery to a close chassis bolt.

If you want, while you have the heavy wire out, run another ground from the firewall to under the intake manifol at the back of the engine (passenger side) where the other wimpy one is.

This fixed my problems (identical to yours) and ever one elses that I have recommended this fix to.

Every one should do it anyways- regardless of charging voltage. It will make the alternator's work a lot easier!!

ya my lights used to come on at upper RPMs till I added another wire from the alternator "+" to battery "+". the firewall to engine and battery "-" to ground didn't seem to do anything different to mine.
