low profiles tires question
Maybe one day I'll be able to answer questions, instead of asking them.
I'm about to get some new tires on my S5 stock rims. I've previously had some Yokohama something or others and they were great except for cornering. There was a noticeable lag between turning the wheel and feeling the tire bite. It was kind of like driving on balloons. The tires previous to this (bridgestones, I think) didn't have a cornering lag.
I have been considering going to a lower profile tire to increase sidewall stiffness to get away from this, but I'm not sure that's the right thing to do since the tires previous to the Yokos didn't bother me. I've been considering the Yokohama AVID ENVigor but in a lower profile. I will probably get 16" wheels one day, but until then, I'm looking for a cheaper tire that will still grab the corners well.
I know tires are a fairly personal preference, but what do you all think?
EDIT: I sure wish I could edit post titles.

I went from a 60 profile on my 15" vert wheels to a 50 profile. You can go to a lower profile, but if you already have stiffer spring setup on the car, a bigger sidewall will help cushion the bumps a bit (which I will be going back to a 60 when these wear out). A good set of tires even in the bigger diameter can perform good (as you have seen). It is mostly in the way the tire is designed. Some have better sidewall stiffness than others, but in general a lower sidewall will help in cornering regardless.
Either way, make sure you get a good set of tires and you will be fine, the rest is really up to you.
