loud screeching, maybe turbo?

today i started my car and at first i gave it some gas right after ignition and let it fall down to idle, the car idles @1500 rpms and there was a very loud screeching noise coming from the engine. It could either be some belts or perhaps the turbo? So suddenly the screeching stopped and the engine sounded fine. When i put my head over in the engine bay where the turbo is i can hear a soft buzzing sound that sounds like its on the hotside. Do i have major shaft play? or is it just the belts? whenenever i rev the engine slowly up to 6000rpms the screeching starts again @ about 5krpms and dissapears a soon as it drops past 4k. any help w/ this? It sounds almost like belts but i sparyed wd-40 on the pullies while it was running/screeching and it didn't do anything.

thinking belts. my friend's protege screeches every morning because her belts are bad and she just revs til it goes away.

Try getting some belt dressing or loosening up the belts. When it screeches, its often because they are worn, or they are too tight.

Belt Dressing makes the rubber more sticky and screech free.

does anyone have an idea about the buzzing turbo or does that sound normal? This is my first rotary turbo. im going to take off the TID and check for shaft play today. and perhaps replace the belt and put on my dual pully.

I'm assuming that if its a soft buzzing, its fine, but I don't have a turbo car, so I don't know.

If there's any construction sites around or a building where they're retaring the roof.

Tar would help alot with screeching belts just rub some on the inside of the pulley or belt. Works awsome

Bearings are a common source of screeching--especially those on the alternator or A/C idler.

Any easy way to check the belts is to use a spray bottle to spray water on them while the are screeching. If they stop momentarily, then you know that they're the source.
