loss of pressure in brake system

the pressure in my brakes started to feel weak so i checked my brakes to see if they were bad and ended up it wasnt, so i tryed to bleed the system to see if that was it , the brakes got stiffer for a little the went soft again , im thinking its the master cylinder but not sure, well just wanted a little of advice before i go out and but something i dont need , thanks

Does your car have ABS?

If not, and you arent leaking anywhere else, I would say its your brake booster. You can prolly find a used unit with the master attached for pretty cheap. That way you eliminate both possibilities, but I am almost certain its your power brake booster.

Thanks

If the master leaks it will be right where the junction of the booster/master, (that I have seen leak). The booster will not leak, it will just not provide assisted braking if it malfunctions. I would also check the vacuum line that goes to the booster and make sure there is vacuum there when the engine is on otherwise, there is your problem.

hehe
good luck
