Loss of power and loud rumbling coming from 88 GX

Hello all, thanx for your time.
I'm a newbie to the actual tech side to rx-7's because now I actually own one! What seems to be the problem is that when i bought the rx about a month ago everything ran fine except for a slight rumble while downshifting into second gear almost as if it were gonna stall (but only when doing so with the rpms starting from idle......if i were to keep the rmps above idle rpm limit while downshifting there would be no rumble)Anyway, yesterday i started to notice that i was louder than usual and that i had a substantial drop in power. This happened to me before while driving my dad's rx when i was in high school, however when that happened it was the rotary chamber losing its seal and it would stall even just pushing the clutch in while driving down the road(no need to mention it but i was scared sh*#$less and parked right away and called up my pops wondering if he'd show up only to kill me). However, i can still drive my rx no prob (well.......none apparent) it doesn't stall like when the pressure seal went on my dad's rx, so i don't know what it is and have no clue how to find out. It might even be an exhaust or engine catalyst problem couldn't it??????
Thanx in advance to anyone that can help.

Vacuum leaks and TPS problems are common. With the engine idling spray carb cleaner or WD-40 around the vacuum lines and the intake duct. See if the idle raises. If it does, you have a leak you need to fix. If it doesn't please post back.

call me an idiot..........

Hey Cos......thnx for the reply.
I looked up some photos and stuff on the net however i couldn't find where the vacuum lines and intake ducts are on a non-turbo 88 rx.
If you could be kind enuf to give a brief description of where i may find those, i'll immediately go and give it the wd-40 test.
Sorry i'm such an idiot when i comes to the mechanical side of rx-7s (my passion is the drive not how to fix a broken down car).

the problem was a missing nut and a loose nut on the exhaust where the pipe meets the engine. the gasket wasn't damaged so i put 2 new nuts in and away i went!
