Loss of faith. *shakes head* Water temps

Well as most of you know I have been working on the 88GTU for the past near 2 months now. In this time I installed an after market water temp gauge. I drilled taped the return hose from the back in the back of the pump housing. This spot is right below the water thermo sensor. I then jb welded with a cap over the spot on the block where the line came from "I have TB mod".

So now everyone argues that the S4 gauge is linier and it works great. I agree, but it is very slow reacting! My temps jumped up to 215F at one point and the gauge was reading just a tad over half. I then got up on the car for a second then cruised 2 mi's back home. My temp’s dropped to 187F, the factory gauge was still reading half way.

215*F is waaaaay too hot for an NA. I think you have cooling issues or your new gauge is inaccurate.

I've never even seen 195*F on my TII with the big greddy fmic doing freeway pulls on a 100*F day.

Nahh nahh this is 13bT swap with FMIC. I just replaced my fan and runing a koyo RAD. The system is only runing water right now with OEM T-stat, I just primed it up and got it runing today. I will drain it to the amount i want then add glycol and purple ice.

Yea the temp gauge was bouncing 215 220 then it will drop quickly to 190 and settle around 187 now. After hard 10psi pulls around my twistys here and big striaghts hiting 130mph easy I was bouncing from 190 to 215 avg then I pulled back into my house idled for 5 min would not come up off of 187 189 and S4 factory gauge was reading just over half.

^ This was the second run I just made 5 min ago.

Where do you have your gauge located?

Proper temps on my location are as follows.
NORMAL
180°F to 210°F
82.22°C to 98.89°C
Caution
220°F
104.44°C
UT OHH!
Over 250°F
Over 121.11°C

Well, keep in mind the stock thermostat doesnt even start to open untill 180-194 factor spec. Full lift at 204.

If you recall, I fixed alot of my heating problems by some creative foam placement. Perchance do you have an FMIC?

215 and 220 too hot? Bullshit. Under 13psi even straight up tap doesn't boil until over 250*f. If you're running a propper coolant mix 265*f is easy. You won't have any problems in the system until the coolant starts to boil and only then because it will expand tremendously and expell your coolant through the overflow or whatever part the pressures burst. You routinely see internal temperatures in excess of 1000*f...what makes you think the car's gonna melt down if the coolant touches 215?

Also...both guages (S4 and S5) work just fine...in the simplified manner which they were designed to work. The S4 guage is linear and is slow to react...intentionally. Occasional temperature spikes happen all the time ranging from just above T-Stat levels to around 240*f...Mazda really needs some twit going into hysterics because his temperature guage jump 40*. The S5 guage is even better because it doesn't register on the "H" until just before you've reached a critical point...gives the driver a propper reason to panic.

You won't find a car today with an electric fan that comes on under 200*f. The fan on focus came on at 210*. The one on my TLS comes on at 225*f. I'm sure they're all about to melt...

Honestly, I dont generally get concerned until 225. Hell, the auxillary fan isnt even set to come on until 217.

lol ^. No the E fan I had on for like 2 days when I first built the car. It was not doing the job. I am back to clutch fan.

That is funny b/c I was debating painting the fan lol. You can see the new paint on the thread that was posted about how to paint irons and stuff on page 2 now.

I have an blitz sensor where the stock sensor would be on the actual block. I would think this would be the hottest point in the entire coolant system, but my PFC says otherwise. My PFC uses the stock waterthermosensor on the back of the waterpump for it's water temp reading and it reads about 5*C higher when on the freeway. Not sure if it's because the stock thermosensor is old, not as accurate or whatever but I trust my blitz gauge more than the reading on my PFC.

That is assuming he even has a stock thermostat, and not some silly stant or the like that does not even work properlly in our cars

I've never had a noticeable problem with Stant...what do you know that I don't?

Never seen a Stant that didn't have higher temps, and reduced cooling capability in a RX-7.

Never!

try OEM and see how it is supposed to work.

His symptoms scream Stant

Thanks for the heads-up. I noticed a stant that operated on a slightly higher rating but it was from my Supra and I assumed it was an isolated incident. I don't like them much anyway...

Normally you should not have that temp surge then.

Are you sure it is facing the right way??

Long pointy part down into the housing. I only noticed a temp surge drop once pulling into my drive way, I was like wow I could tell the T-stat just lifted.
