Losing Power at high revs

Ok I have another question that most likely has multiple answers, but I'm looking for some guidance as where to start? (I've been searching for awhile now but no good reading material).

Okay here it goes. I was driving along today with my friend in his lil corolla. He just finished the break in on his new motor and wanted a comparison with my car. We start off and I'm at WOT. He shifts to second and I just reached 6k rpm. As soon as I hit 6k it loses some power and doesn't accelerate any further, but it also doesn't shudder, vibrate, or make much noise. I thought I heard a slight hissing noise or something but it was hard to tell over the exhaust. It did this again when I was in second gear when I hit 5.5k rpms. No hesitation or power loss in lower rpm range.

We arrived to the junkyard and got some things, while there I check the vacuum lines near the 5/6th port actuators, and peaked my nose around there. I didn't see anything unusual. We drive to Carl's Jr after we leave the junkyard. When I leave Carl's JR I accelerate at WOT again through 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear and this time nothing happened!?

Finally a third time I tried it once more when leaving Carl's Jr and back onto the freeway it does it again! So, right now I'm not too sure what to look for.

The State of the car:
Every was fine, oil pressure, water temp, volts, etc. Except I was inbetween E and a 1/4 tank of gas. A bit low but I've floored with less gas before and it's okay. The motor is pretty much stock, in fact yesterday I put my air box back in with a K&N stock replacement filter. Only thing done is a gutted cat and big exhaust leak lol.
I haven't checked the plugs yet, and tomorrow I will go fill up with good gas to see what happens.

If you read all this THANK YOU. I know its a little much to read but I want to give good detail of my problem. Thanks guys

-Alex

Cat might be plugged a bit. Or moving around inside its case.

Clutch and flywheel OK? Is it revving up, but not going any faster? Could be slippage.....

I had a similar problem, where it would be reluctant to rev past 6k. Changing the fuel filter (high pressure side) fixed it.

Yes I am going to try and fix the exhaust leak, fill up with some good chevron gas or something, and the fuel filter is on my list cause I have no idea how many miles it has or it's condition.

My N/a used to do that too except when mine would do it, it would blow smoke and smell rich. My guess, your ports are getting stuck?

At first I was thinking it's the ports but I dont think it is. I was driving just now and it didn't do it! WTF!? My car is so weird. I'm gonna get a new fuel filter cause I need one anyways, I already planned on changing out a bunch of things so maybe I can figure something out. I'm going to a drift event in a couple weeks!
