Arrow losing control at higher speeds

Hey guys I have been noticing lately that once i reach around 80mph my steering wheel becomes alot harder to handle and my car starts to wiggle back and forth. Is this normal of an fc or is something wrong? I have been 100+ in a dozen other cars and never had this happen.

get your tires balanced...usually the problem, if not look into a 4 wheel alignment

If you get an alignment as suggested above, this will become clear... but has your car ever been wrecked?

what do you mean by harder to handle, the 7 have boost controls on the power steering that almost turns it off by 72 mph so it would feel like no power steering, when compared to slow speeds, also do the above mentioned things and see what your fuild level is in your power steering pump

Agreed. I was having wheel vibration trouble above 85 or 90, and by 100 (on the back stretch of [insert local racetrack name]) it was really bad.

New tires (with balancing & such) fixed it. I think the old ones may have been minorly flat spotted.

Um, your kidding right? Think about it for a minute. Long enough? Good. Came back from my favorite store, PICK AND PULL, and had my FC3C n/a all stock, at 125 in fourth, talking to my son on phone, and smoking a cigarette in other hand. Oh, my knee was steering, and was smooth as a babies bottom. Good luck man, major problem, and it not just tires and an alignment.

Not to hijack, but the more info the better, my car would shake minorly around 65-75mph, and worse after 75. But it woulndn't get much more worse up to 120mph. I balanced my tires myself and it was definitely smoother. Almost ZERO shake until 80. At 80 now there's minor shaking and I got up to 100 and it felt bad. I don't know how to describe it. But it was definitaly not "talking to my son on phone, and smoking a cigarette in other hand. Oh, my knee was steering, and was smooth as a babies bottom" like MOMBODOGS said. So yea, that's what happened to me.

I do think however that my car was in a wreck on the drivers front quarter panel. I have NOT had an alignment done either.

For all that didn't get the point, I guess I'll just spell it out. Why are you going 80 if its at a point of concern? Go over 100 a million times, its the slow speed of 80, out of control, that is of concern. Im an *******, arrogant, disliked by many: but I have enough common sense to check the obvious, first, when it comes to my safety, and that of others.

I don't smoke and phone, and knee drive at 125, but I do drive that speed. Not in traffic, with bald tires, nor would I after major engine changes and weight variances. I feel a difference with my 16 year old, 200 pound son in car. But if it is wobbling, get off the road.

Your life, or someone else's, is not worth it. Sorry If I seem harsh. I appologize. I just hope that you get it fixed soon bro, cause 80 and shaking is need of concern. And I am still sticking with my opinion: weight variance and check the underside. Something got loosened, and not tightened.

My old 86 base used to do this. But I believe my culprit was a warped brake rotor.

S4's have a speed sensor that turns the PS off at 40mph.

These cars are getting old and wore out. I am sure you need new struts and bushings with an alignment and good tires balanced and all. The toe bushings can be replaced with anti toe eliminators for 40$. Factory replacement KYB’s can be had on ebay for 300$ and new energizer bushings for 100$.

well first things first.

If your tires/rims haven't been balanced, do it, it could only help.
MY old camry had terrible vibrations and shimmy(whatever you call it) at all kinds of various speeds.

Start at like 43 and go away at 49 (what a bitch for doing the limit)
then it would come back at around 67 and stop at 75 mph
and again at 95+

These are all rough speeds, and needless to say , I would not drive at those speeds.

This was on the stock wheels and tires.

then I got a decent pair or wheels(nopthing big or wild) and nice 55 series rubber.

The car ran so smooth after that, I got a few speeding tickets. Really I would get well over 100 on the highway and not even realize it, cause it was so smooth. Then I'd look down and woah!!!!

Since the whole wheel assebmly rotates, vibrations will be more pronounced at higher speeds.
and since the tires are your contact with the road, bad balance can make it feel terrible.

Same with my 7. I bought a used pair of rims with great rubber for $200. They were pretty crappy and it had all kinds of bad vibes.... $40 later and balanced, it runs so smooth it's amazing.

Balancing is a great start....
If it has little to no effect, then try to get it aligned. you might find out at the alignment shop that your ball joints or such are worn out. That would explain alot.

one step at a time, and you'll figure it out

Why would you put tires on your car without balancing them? This is common sense you should always balance a new set of tires and an alignment should be done every 17k miles.

dont mean to high jack but why would they even bother with powersteering if it goes off at 40? I unpluged mine and it really isnt that hard to drive without it.

The posted speed limit here is 65, for pussies! Why buys a sports car, and grandma it? I finally, after six months of ownership, have fixed all leaks, replaced-seems everything, and finally running specs-for all stock components, so I will drive it until- well, love the car.

Listen to the folks here, Im sure they're right. Without them, I'd still be driving my other car- my feet.

What point are you trying to prove?? 125 is nothing.... Hit 150 in a vert and then brag about it.

AND Yes, bad tires will cause this problem, or tires too low on air. IT DOES NOT HAPPEN on low profile tires. So if you have LP tires and this is happening to you, then its definately another problem...

Oh... I dunno. Maybe someone who got a speeding ticket for just under twice the posted speed limit in a 55 and is on the "One more ticket before March and you lose your license" plan?

I've been driving my Subaru a lot lately. It doesn't do over 90 except on a downhill. :-)

Back to the first problem, start by having the tires balanced. Also check your front wheel bearings - if they're really loose, they can cause problems.

Harder to handle? What exactly do you mean by this? Harder to handle as in you need all your muscles to change lanes?

About the car "wiggling back and forth", what wheels/tires do you have on the car? I had a RX-7 with the phone dial wheels and my car would sway back and forth at about 80mph. Turned out the stock tires didnt have enough air. Once I properly adjusted the air, the problem totally went away and the car felt very stable at higher speeds.

Martin, are you reading my post, or are you just a moron? I know you must have a tiny dick, because you got **** for brains also. I was making a point about safety, and concerns of doing that speed be unstable. Have you figured it out yet, or must I draw another crayon picture for the mentally challenged?

Oh, 150, I am so impressed. Which cartoon were you watching, Goofy or Road Runner?, when 150 was achieved for you? I don't think your smart enough to find a speed over 25 without changing your diaper, and I'll take my stock vert against you any day buckwheat.

I'll even meet you have way if your mama can will allow you to leave your "crib".

PEACE THE DOG and always remember: safety first, Martin last!

Have fun starting drama online guy, eventually you are gunna start **** with a guy that lives by you and youll get your **** handed to you.
