Loosing Coolant (Not What You Think)
Loosing Coolant (Not What You Think)
Background Info: 1988 SE :: 105,000 miles :: Bought the car a month ago.
Story: A week ago, I started the car (cold) and the Add Coolant light (with the damn buzzer) went off. I was really close to home, so I drove in, waited for it to cool down, and filled it up. Overflow tank was bone dry, but Radiator was okay (a little low). Drove it fine after that.
A few days later, the damn thing started to come on again. I realize I'm loosing fluid.
Start Testing: Filled everything up, took off cap, started car. Coolant DIDN'T pour out of the neck. I even gunned it a few times, nothing poured out. No white smoke. And no -apparent- leaks. The cap looks a little worn. A little strip of rubber is coming off, but it looks like it's seals fine. I'm replacing it today.
Any suggestions? Tests?

However, your problem is either due to a faulty pressure cap, or cracked hose (the one that goes to the overflow bottle).
