loosing coolant

ok, i get the car and it's loosing coolant from the neck that goes on the engine. i notice the crappy looking aftermarket cap so i go and get an OEM one. it fits much better, but i'm still losing coolant out of the neck. anyone have any flipin idea what's wrong?

Well, where is it leaking from?

Cracking is common on the '89+ neck because they are plastic. The '86-'88 neck is aluminium, but it can leak between the neck and the plastic piece the cap screws in. There's an o-ring that you can replace. Or, it could be leaking at the base.

Based on your profile, it's an '88. So check the areas that I mentioned. Clean it thoroughly, then run the engine and try to locate the leak.

can i take off the plastic piece and look at the oring and put it back on?

oh yeah, i'm wondering cause my low coolant buzzer came on on the way home today
