Loose shifter. Whats the deal?
Following up on a recent thread that I used to declare my new car...I am already asking for some help, lol.
Well..the car is terrific...but, the shifter is like...loose. When I say, ''loose'' I mean by the shifter just kinda wiggles around the shifter area. For example...when I stick it into neutral..it slides from the left to the right because of the shift linkage. I'm thinking it's the shift linkage that needs to be replaced..if i'm wrong, I'd happily accept a correction as I need to get this fixed. It's really bugging me...cause It's hard to stick it into first, second, etc. I can't just push up and have it automatically shift into the middle and then push up to get to 3rd gear. So...yeah...if anyone knows that it's besides the shift linkage...let me know. I heard they go for about twenty bucks or so. Appreciate any help =]

Every time.
Hard to believe the difference those little shims can make.
Get 'em at the dealership. Five minute install. Piece of cake.

you can try kragens but I've found that napa auto has more parts for FC's than kragens or pep boys, they're also cheaper. If you don't find them there, next would be mazdatrix.com.

I am a new owner of a 7 too and i fixed mine the day I bought it, it was annoying driving with the shifter like that. I got mine from mazdatrix, and it only takes 15 mins to do the whole thing.

Before you take off on a buying trip inspect and dust boots for the shifter & tranny. You may need these with a vehicle with alot of time & miles on it.
You have a boot assembly (as I call it) FB01-64-490B installs under your console to top of tunnel. Then you have a boot on top of transmission. Part number may vary by year but for S5 it should be a M514-17-480A.

Thanks for all the help and tips guys, I'm going out today to go buy a set of the correct bushings for my shifter. I'll try to get pics of my new baby today, too. That way you guys can see what I got .
