looking for sylncros for fifth ger
Well you you can try double clutching for now and see if that gets you by for shifting into 5th. Should work no problem. You can usually find tranny's from wrecking yards for around $250-300. Only problem is you will have no idea what the condition of the syncros will be in(although it is pretty irregular for the 5th gear syncro to go out, the 2nd gear syncro is usually the first to go). I'm not sure if you can buy just a syncro from a Mazda dealership, I kinda doubt it, and if you could it probably would cost as much or more than a whole used tranny. If you COULD find a syncro, unless you know what you are doing you REALLY don't want to !@#$ around with your gearbox, and it would probably cost more to pay somebody open up your gearbox and do the repairs, then it would cost to just replace the tranny with a used one. The swap would only take half a day if you know what you are doing.

when shifting push in the clutch, shift to neutral, let it rev (or rev it) to where it needs to be in the next gear at that speed, push in the clutch and shift
Used on old cars w/o synchros, some types of racing transmissions, old race cars, and on some large trucks.
Synchros just do the rev-matching for you

well, i have found the "sweet spot" for shifting into fifth gear. it is about 2500 rpms. so i can live with the car like that until i can figure out a solutioin i guess
I blew 5th gear syncro in my '90 GtU back in @ '93. Checked invoice. Was 350 for rebuild at Nazda dealer then. With inflation (ie: greed) you can expect a heck of a lot more for Dealer re-build. I agree with Speed... get one from a bone yard.

the parts you need are only like $50. you need the synchro and both main shaft nuts. the transmisson comes out and the tailshaft housing comes off. next you remove the nuts and change the synchro. you do need a special puller tool, but its is a simple job and better than getting a junkyard tranny with potential hidden problems
