Looking to rebuild my turbo. Need input

Ok so Im rebuilding my turbo and trying to go hybrid with it untill I can afford a bigger turbo. The T04b compressor housing, back plate and wheel is basically the BNR turbo so I figured I can do the same thing here for less cost.

I found a thread on how to do it but there is so much information that I dont even know where to start. Different wheels.."V", "H" P-trim...etc

Because there is so many options on the wheel...which is best for 14psi?
Also, which rebuild kit is the proper one for this. Id hate to get the wrong kit..lol

Here is my set up:

Stock S5 JSPEC
Stock S5 turbo with external waste gate set up (.9bar)
750cc primaries
1680cc secondaries
Walboro fuel pump
Microtech LT-10s
Front mount
3" down pipe and exhaust piping to 2.5" duals

I have all the fuel in the world for a bigger turbo and tunning capabilities as well.

Thanks guys I appreciated.

I don't really know of any "kits" you can buy to change out the compressor. You generally have to get a blown T04b and snag the compressor section off of it.

RotaryRocket88 put together a list of compressors that work, and it's really all up to you. I can tell you that I loved the v trim T04b on mine (that is until it started destroying itself because it was so out of balance).

8 Blade T04B:
409179-0021, 70x48.36 mm, 48 trim, S trim (37 lbs/min)
409179-0022, 70x49.50 mm, 50 trim
409179-0023, 70x51.61 mm, 54 trim
409179-0024, 70x54.00 mm, 60 trim, U trim
409179-0025, 70x55.37 mm, 63 trim, V trim (48 lbs/min)
6 blade T04B
409826-0006, 70x48.35 mm, 48 trim
409826-0012, 70x52.85 mm, 57 trim
409826-0014, 70x55.30 mm, 62 trim, V trim (48 lbs/min)
409826-0015, 70x58.40 mm, 70 trim, H trim (49 lbs/min)

Turbonetics 60-1, 76.2x59.0 mm (57 lbs/min)
Turbonetics 62-1 (60 lbs/min)

Search for the part numbers, find a compressor cover to match, and a T04b backplate.

GPopShop.com sells rebuild kits. The Garrett T3 basic kit is generally your best bet. Yes, it works on the Rx7's Hitachi turbo.

See the link in my signature. You have to decide what power level you're looking for, and how much bottom end you're willing to give up. A larger compressor will spin up slower, but flow more air overall, so it's a trade off.

Yeah I dont think there is a rebuild kit for this...although it should be available if someone is willing to pile up some t04b's. lol
I saw the rebuild kits at Gpopshop and that was pretty much my main question. Which rebuild kit to use.

Ive been reading some compressor maps on fc3spro.com. Im in Florida, so googled what my atmospheric pressure is. Then I converted that number (1019) to psi in this web site

http://www.sensorsone.co.uk/pressure...mmhg-torr.html

Im at 14.7psi atmospheric pressure and with that said (and my engine bein stock ported) Im thinking the engines airflow rate puts out about 30lbs/minute.

Link to the compressor maps: http://fc3spro.com/TECH/TURBO/compmap.html

The "H" trim looks like the best option here. Now that brings up more questions.

1. How do I go about trimming the rear wheel? and is it necessary?

2. If lag is the purpose for trimming the rear wheel, is the lag extremely noticeable?

3. Also, the part numbers posted, are those the one that fit into the stock shaft?

4. Do these maps differ for a hybrid turbo? Or will it be the same?

For rebuilding the turbo, use this kit:
http://gpopshop.com/products-page/ga...asic-t3-kit-2/

"Trimming" the rear wheel is actually what's referred to as "clipping". Clipping is used to actually decrease the efficiency of the turbine to impart less energy on the shaft. This reduces boost creep, and backpressure at the same time.

The larger compressor you put on the front, the more noticeable the lag will be. I know the T04B v trim that I ran really didn't even have noticeable lag. The larger you go, the more noticeable lag will be.

The v trim is the most common hybrid upgrade. I haven't really seen many H trim T04b compressors.

Those compressors fit, but that's not an all-inclusive list. If I recall, the shaft diameter is 0.250". Pretty much any T3 or T4 compressor will fit. Garrett backplates will bolt right up to the Hitachi CHRA.

Each turbo will have its own map.

Excellent! Thanks a lot!

I was reading up on RotaryRocket88 thread on rebuilding turbo. A lot of good info in there as well. I think Im gonna go with the H trim though. Its landing me right where I want to be in comparison to the V trim. The V trim would be great too but If I decide to go higher boost pressure, it start taking me off the efficiency range.

I also noticed that the V trim has 8 blades while the H trim has 6. Whats the difference there? (other than the two extra blades obviously)

Also, has anyone tried getting their exhaust manifold and turbine housing therma-coated?

I found a place that does this kind of work for 45 dollars...
http://www.thermaltechcoatings.com/new_page_4.htm

I tried messeging ReTed because he seems to know a lot about this but he hasnt logged in for a couple of years now. Im hoping hes not dead.

I just got my back plate from Turbos_R_Us and this...

There is a pretty small chunck missing where my compressor housing will bolt up. Is it going to seal correctly of should I be returning this piece?

The piece is missing on the camphor side?? of the back plate leaving a high spot on the flat surface.

Should be fine.

If it looks like it was damaged during shipping or handling, and there's a small raised portion, then just lightly file the raised edge off and be on your merry way.

I contacted Turbos_R_Us and told him about it. Then he simply shipped me another one.... . The seller is pretty cool about it too!
